I can't answer the warranty part, but we installed a replacement window in our kitchen, came out real good. We contracted out when we decided to replace all of our windows. The contractor said we did a real good job on installing it. Took us only 4 hours too. :P If had decided to replace our windows...

A 1950's house isn't an old one in Maine.

I looked around for some, but we decided to just replace all of the windows in our house (also in Maine) with ones from Harvey.

We had Harvey windows installed last fall (double pane, low e, argon filled) and noticed a big difference with them. No issues with them, are drafts are all gone, and our oil usage went down.

Not being in the industry I can't say for sure, but those prices sans installation seem high to me.

Re: Silver Line 8500 VS Alside Excalibur

Hey vinyl window experts - can you please cut out the window snobbery and in-jokes and help provide me with information? I'm not a window expert, just a consumer that used this site for research. My comment was based on sales techniques I know sales people use (and a little physics knowledge), and ...

I don't think the small difference in u factor is worth the several thousands of dollars more in cost. In my area it is more than twice the cost. Compare $5000 for Sunrise to $12000 for a triple pane. Just to add a note, I used the energy calculator on the Schuco site and it would take about 20 yea...

Heh, talk about a smoke and mirrors gimmick. I wouldn't buy from him just based on that technique.

New Windows Installed, very happy with them

We just had 18 windows replaced (old single pane) with new double hung windows, low-E, argon filled, manufactured by Harvey Industries. The windows have welded frame and sash, PPG Intercept Spacer, 7/8.G thickness, 20 warranty on the glass, lifetime on the parts. U-Factor on them is .33, R-Value 3.0...

I've done one window myself and wouldn't mind doing it myself again. However when we are looking at replacing 18 windows and the amount of time I can dedicate to installing them, we decided to have a contractor do it.

Also, the avereage age of their installers is over 40, I believe I heard. Is that a good thing? :) They could be hiring kids just out of high school and people that just retired looking for extra income. So you get an average age of 40 something with no experience. Years of expereince might tell yo...
