Re: Recommendations in SW Michigan?

Do you have any friends of family that have already completed similar projects? That is usually the best place to start in terms of a recommendation.

Re: Replacement Windows- Please Help! Sunrise vs. MI

I kind of breezed over the fact that you are in Madison. If you are in Wisconsin, there is only one company to call in this situation and he is a regular contributor on this forum. HomeSealed is the man in Wisconsin and without question your best option in your state. Feel free to click on his name ...

Re: Am I Going Insane?

No. You are not insane...as far as I can tell from this post.

You have met with two fairly marketing driven companies apparently that think quite highly of their product. That said, I am sure there are better windows and more transparent sales practices out there that might benefit you.

Re: Replacement Windows- Please Help! Sunrise vs. MI

Between the two windows, there isn't much of a comparison. The Sunrise is superior by order or margin. On the full tear out vs. insert question, just depends on what that extra bit of glass is worth to you. The $115 number seems awfully low for the additional materials and carpentry work to be honest.

Re: Okna with PVC trim?

Another vote to talk to your installer.

Okna did have a welded brickmold. I don't know if it was available on the 700 series.

Super fair.

With a stucco cut back, that is down right cheap.

Re: Quote validation - Okna Windows

That quote is too good to be true in our market but perhaps the cost of doing business or labor is a bit cheaper up there? Again it is MA and I can't imagine the government doesn't have it hands out with the taxes. That said, it is at the very low end of what I would expect the pricing range to be a...

Re: Window quote opinions

I think you answered your own question a bit here don't you? The Okna window is the best product in that comparison by a good bit over the Asure and still better than the Classic in that comparison as well. If the Simonton installer was using that upper end products (i.e. the 9800 or 5500 or Platinu...

Re: Met my installers, more questions (and a roadblock)

I can't imagine a scenario where DS glass isn't at a minimum, an option. Most of the window companies specify it as a standard these days.

Re: Provia vs Sunrise

That is the rub that I hear from installers as well.

The frame is extremely sensitive to installation and sill inconsistencies. Jobs over a bit weeping mortar are supposedly a PITB.

Milgard, now having re-focused in the West Coast market, seems to have been running pretty squared away and without much issue.

Re: Provia vs Sunrise

Both are quality companies. Sunrise has been doing vinyl window for a lot longer, but I am not sure that has bearing any longer given innovation. I haven't seen the Endure in a while and I haven't used it personally so I can't comment on that comparison. What I do know is that you probably can't go ...

Re: Starmark vs Polaris vs Okna 800

+1

Can't go wrong with either of those. While I love the UltraWeld from a performance standpoint, the 800 will run a few laps around it on aesthetic front.
