Re: Is everyone ready for the new lead testing requirements?

What do you guys think of this law in general? I got into it with a fellow contractor today who said that this is a good thing for us. I disagree. IMO, this law penalizes those of us who are legit, and follow all of the rules and regulations in he first place. We are the one's who take the most car...

Re: Is everyone ready for the new lead testing requirements?

Mike, if you look at the outside containment rules, we will have to cover the trees and scrubs as well. At least I will have to in my service area because everyone grows stuff within a few feet of their homes. I'm wondering how long trees and shrubs will live when they are wrapped up during the heat...

Re: Silverline vs. Lindsay vs. Alside

Having installed both Silverline and Alside windows in the past I would not suggest either brand. I would strongly suggest increasing your budget and going with a better quality brand.

Good luck!

Re: Is everyone ready for the new lead testing requirements?

I came up with $50 a window extra and $200 per job for stuff like: lead testing sticks, plastic wrap, filters, garbage bags, tape, signs, caution tape, training, jumpsuits, booties and a bunch of other stuff to stay compliant.

If the EPA can show me how it can be done for less I'm all ears :D

Re: need help with a list of questions to ask window companies

I get really tired of people suggesting Angie's List sometimes. No offense to either of you guys as I know it is a pretty good source of reviews on companies, however, Angie's List makes all their money from the advertisers and in this case, that is the company. All the banner ads are big bucks and...

Re: so what is a good brand and model of window??

Assuming that you are looking for an installed project and not just to buy the windows and install them yourself, let me know how you make out. I only know of a few companies that will give prices without looking at your window openings. BTW, your home might be your biggest investment don't degrade ...

Re: need help with a list of questions to ask window companies

I would also suggest Angie's list over randomly driving around looking for replacement windows. Same goes for randomly calling people from the phone book or Googling "replacement windows [your town]". On a side note, hopefully you are not going to have 5-6 in home window presentations........

Most of the area companies that I network with are in the $600-$1000 range, not sure if that fits in your budget.

IS $1,100 (APPROX) AN AVERAGE PRICE PER WINDOW FOR QUALITY? Depending on your job the price could be fair. If you are looking for a top end triple pane window that is sold, installed and backed by a good labor and material warranty from a company that will be around to service you in 10-20-30 years...

Re: Windows

Which two are bottom grade and what window should I be looking for in my area? (Boston? Southern Ma) Your question is sort of broad "what window should I look for in my area". If you are looking for windows that will last a long life and carry great ratings then your search will narrow a ...

Window Companies Selling Mini-blinds & Window Coverings

I was wondering if any of the other window companies on this site sell window coverings? It seems like a fair percentage of my clients want new window coverings for their new windows. I got a call a few weeks ago from a company that will set me up with the sales stuff or I can refer the job to them-...

#5. None of the above.

Either go with the first company or shop. Installing the wrong size window in order to save a few dollars on material is just wrong.
