Not the seal as in the glass unit itself, but the seal as in the caulking around the window on the outside of the new window to the wall or trim.

I know this is a bit late, but the fact everyone trys to get you to buy their window is, that they do markup the window price to make profit. Most of the time they do not want you to buy from others. If you buy from others then they want to markup the install price.

The blame they try to put off on the contractor is if there is any leakage. They will not cover any leakage on their part. Not all true, They can have an account with a window manufacturer, but as with alot of companys in CA. they use subs so they dont have to worry and workmans comp. Doing a retro-fit window leave the frame in, Once you remove it, it will start to leak. I have seen it take 3 or 4 years to start to come thru so you can see the signs. Stucco is only as water tight as the paint is.

What they said, I have done it many times myself and have caused no damage. It is hard to do and I do not recommend that you try it.
I have made vinyl windows and installing them for 20 years, so I know them inside out. There are tricks that make it easy for me to do it.
