Re: Selling house in 9 months: Recommended course of action???

That is a great price. Actually on the questionably low side. If you are comfortable with the contractor go with them. By the time you buy the windows and pay your friend you won't be that far off between the two.

Re: Alside and Buy/Fix/Flip

Does the top sash close evenly into the head pocket? If so, the bottom sash may have been manufactured out of square. You can measure it diagonally to check it for square. If the bottom sash is making contact against the sill(where the bulb seal or Q-Lon contacts the sill) across the complete width ...

Good to know. Most of those you list have little or know presence in my area.

Re: constant force vs block and tackle

Most higher end replacement windows (vinyl) tend to use constant force balances and promote them as being quieter and smoother than other balance systems. I believe wood windows tend to use some form of block and tackle systems due to not having a channel which would accomodate a constant force syst...

You may need to look at a mechanically fastened frame and sash window. Welding fixtures may limit the size of welded products.

Re: Confused

28" half round should not be a problem. Many manufacturers make 24" half rounds. They also will have different profiles to match like profiles of their SH or DH lines for both appearance and frame depths.

Re: Lincoln windows vs. Excalibur windows

You should be holding the original contractors feet to the fire! Even if he made an honest mistake you should get what you paid for according to your contract. How do the Lincoln windows perform as far as air infiltration, operation, etc. Changing out the sash to get the correct glass package should...

Re: Surnise restorations - sash is bowing - why?

If you can pull up on the lock rail and it is not tight to the glass it would seem to be a glazing issue as others have pointed out. Measure the visible glass at side stiles and then measure at the center of the sash, those dimensions should be pretty close to equal. I am not sure if any reinforceme...

I have been expecting this, there are going to be more of this type of complaint as the filing deadline come closer. I'm sure there are alot of people that were expecting to get cash back regardless of wether they were due a refund or owed taxes. There was not a clear understanding that this credit ...

Re: How to handle 4 adjoining double hungs

Great opportunity to change the overall appearnce of your home. A bay or bow window could be installed. Changing over to a casement configuration is possible or as has already been suggested a DH/PW/DH would also work. Alot depends on your budget. A 3-lite slider is also a possibility.

Re: Can I convert replacement windows to nail-on?

You may want to contact Milgard. I believe that a Z-bar application is specifically designed for a stucco exterior and may in fact be a better way to install in your case. As Homesealed stated it would preserve the original water management system. HOA's are not always well informed and seem to try ...

Re: Icing & Molding - Installation or Quality Issues (Pictures)

Another area to look at is how or if the glass is glazed properly into the sash. That appears to have an exterior glazing bead and air may be working its way around the IG unit and seeping between the sash and glass. There may not be enough air pressure that can be detected by just feeling with your...

Re: MW Window issues

Are you the 2nd owner of the home? If so, you are probably not covered under the manufacturers warranty. It was most likely only to the original owner. I am not 100% positive this is the case with MW's warranty, but highly likely. Good Luck!

Re: do i have a case?

Take the $250, that should cover the cost of having the glass replaced. I wouldn't sign anything that would give up any rights to any future claims. Most warranties will state that a replacement part or monetary compensation will be provided if a comparable part or product is not available.
