Thanks buddy110. Remove the sash stops the pre drilled holes are behind them. Not on the Simonton 7500 ... at least the West Coast version. There are no pre-drilled holes, even behind the sash stops. Be sure to use some sort of insulation around the perimeter. Most here use low expanding foam. Get i...

Fair enough, thanks.

There are no pre-drilled installation holes.

Thanks very much, insider. Where is that spring located? I want to be sure I don't put mounting screws somewhere in the track that would interfere with it.

Simonton 7500: What's the mechanism?

I'm replacing old wood double-hungs with Simonton 7500 double-hungs. I'm curious: what is the mechanism in these windows that does what counterweights do in wood double-hungs? It's not just friction in the track, is it? Thanks.

Simonton - water retention in bottom of unit

I recently installed a Simonton 7500 double-hung (24x36). Looks great, works great. But ... I have this question/issue: It rained a few days ago; dry and warm since then. Today I noticed there was still water from the rain retained in the channel underneath the lower sash - visible looking down thro...

I think the bubbling that was being referred to was as the caulk is drying ... i.e., it would bubble and then set that way. After it has dried I don't think it's an issue. But, like you, I've asked folks at reputable stores about this "open cell" vs. "closed cell" backer rod, and...

Backer rod

Discovered backer rod a few years ago ... great stuff! Reading this forum, though, I saw something I hadn't heard before: that you should use open-cell backer rod, not closed-cell, because closed-cell will outgas, causing bubbles in the caulk. I've never seen backer rod that specifies one way or the...

Thanks. I spent some time on the phone today with Simonton customer service. Turns out those instructions I mentioned above are intended for their East Coast product line, not the West Coast ... the difference being that the East Coast line uses a separate snap-in slope sill adapter, whereas the Wes...

Simonton "Wood Block" instructions

I will be replacing old double-hung wood windows with vinyl double-hung pocket replacements, probably Simonton. Simonton's online replacement window installation instructions say: "When installing in a slope sill application place wood blocks along the existing windowsill. The blocks will help ...

How to tip the window into position behind stool?

I'm getting ready to replace our old double-hung wood windows with vinyl double-hungs. The "pocket" in our existing windows is 3-1/4", and there is a stool about 1" high above a sloped sill. By "pocket" I mean the space between the stool and the stop. The vinyl window u...

Current opinions on Superior?

Looking to replace a (stucco) house-full of old wood double-hungs with vinyl double-hungs. Simonton and Milgard names seem to be mentioned a lot, and be well-regarded, but just today heard about Superior. Any current thoughts on Superior vs. Simonton vs. Milgard? (Quality, appearance, whatever.) Als...
