Re: What is a good window to get in (Westchester) NY area?

Softlite, HiMark, Sunrise, and Okna are the brands generally held in the highest regard, but there are other good choices as well. Be sure to look at the other performance numbers in addition to U value, including shgc, air infiltration, and design pressure. :D +1 What HomeSealed recommended. Here ...

Re: Looking for Window Maker

I looked through my archives of warranty stickers from past clients. I found this one from a Great Lakes Window that we installed in 1997. http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/2/7/2/3/7/5/webimg/551377472_o.jpg Thank you so much! I'm looking for a local GL dealer. I've got no documentation from the previo...

Re: plygem premium window quote ?'s

pmalavolti, what type of window are they taking out? Since you said its in a concrete wall I suspect you have metal framed windows. $400 a window is about average in my area for replacing metal windows in block with a plygem window white/white window no grids. Every area is different when it comes t...

Re: Air Leakage

Yes, they are Okna 400. The installer was here today, and I have a much better understanding of what is happening now. On some of the windows, the interior stop needed to be removed in order to place some shims because there wasn't a good seal. While it was open, he put some additional insulation i...

Re: Air Leakage

When this air leak issue was brought up, the installer stated that it was not in the contract to remove the interior casing...which technically is true I suppose. We usually don't remove the interior casing. We do however remove the interior stop as shown in the picture. If the interior stop is pai...

Re: Air Leakage

Take a look at the picture I attached. Where exactly is the air coming in? (red arrow A or B) The caulking job they did is bad I would not accept that from my guys. They also didn't caulk the existing molding as I stated in the picture. If the air is coming in from A they need to pull the molding an...

Re: Shims Under Window Seal

First Shim the window. We use vinyl window shims http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t8/wds83/000_0161.jpg Then Spray Foam to Insulate http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t8/wds83/000_0176.jpg Then use sill expander or capping to finish the exterior http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t8/wds83/000_018...

Re: Starmark 900 Quote Evaluation

It could be a good price or not. Pricing varies depending on your existing windows and other factors.
If you not sure go to the OKNA website and fill out the contact information or give them a call.
I know there is at least 5 OKNA dealers in NEPA.
