Re: Amerimax vinyl replacement window vs Milgard Tuscany
I have sold Amerimax in Southern California for the last 5 years and have had no problems. I sell Simonton, PlyGem, Milgard, Superior, Amerimax as well as many others. Amerimax by far has the least complaints and service issues. We don't have the extreme cold of Colorado. I know Amerimax offers a t...

Re: Simonton, Revere, Amerimax or Milgard in Denver
Micman82: I'm really sorry you had such a disappointing experience with the Amerimax. I looked at these a long time and still like their thin frame and nice lines. I hope you can get some resolution from the company. Perhaps you could go directly to their office in Ft. Collins and try to speak to s...

Re: Simonton, Revere, Amerimax or Milgard in Denver
Jack, The experiences of ziptoe and I, detailed in this thread http://www.vinyl-replacement-windows.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2333 should give you some info on Amerimax. Short answer: don't buy Amerimax. Also, I notice another poster referencing my posts and mentioning that it was unclear if...

Re: Amerimax vinyl replacement window vs Milgard Tuscany
Micman: interesting comments. Had the same issues with my Amerimax Windows (installed two years ago)...drafty by the track, dirt blowing in and piling up in the track and sill with stong winds but I did not have the ice problem. Last week tech came out and did the same fixes you had done. Draft was...

Re: Amerimax vinyl replacement window vs Milgard Tuscany
Have you contacted Amerimax and asked what they will do to resolve your problem? If so, what has been the response? Okay--here's been the response from Amerimax. They sent out a technician to look at my windows (took 3 weeks from the time of call until he came). He came out, felt the draft coming t...

Re: Simonton 5300 vs Amerimax Masters Grande
If your windows are that out of square, then the biggest concern I would have would be what the contractors you have spoken to are going to do to resolve that issue, if it's really that bad. Installing a new window into an opening that is way out of square and then shimming it and adding insulation...

Re: Simonton 5300 vs Amerimax Masters Grande
Look at it this way, would you rather have the installer order a window too small for the opening and then make up the gap with insulation or have him measure the window so tight that there isn't any room for insulation? Good point. To clarify, my thought process was "this house was built in '...

Re: Simonton 5300 vs Amerimax Masters Grande
Wil91, I hadn't noticed that about the locks, but sure enough it does that. The fact that the windows were assembled nearby was one minor reason I bought them. The major reason was that I felt best about the installers after interviewing 5 companies (and they still made some serious errors--life's a...

Re: Amerimax vinyl replacement window vs Milgard Tuscany
Ice can be a indicator of poor windows, or it can be an indicator of excess humidity in the home. If you have a humidifier in your home or on the furnace, turn it off and see if it makes a difference. You may also want to vent the home once in a while with a bath or kitchen fan or by cracking open ...

Re: Amerimax vinyl replacement window vs Milgard Tuscany
Have you contacted Amerimax and asked what they will do to resolve your problem? If so, what has been the response? Not yet. Tonight was the first time I saw ice on the windows. Kind of the straw (if you can call it that) that broke the camel's back. I'll call them on Tuesday and post back here the...

Re: Are low e windows noticably darker?
To this observer, they were a bit darker but not obnoxiously so. ie they didn't make my 1970s 4-level (not exactly light) feel any darker.

Re: Final Quotes (and final questions)
Is the Simonton 5500 patio door a better door than the Amerimax Performer Sliding door? . The Amerimax door is the only Amerimax product I have in my house that is adequate (12 other windows are horrible--I've posted details in some other threads, including one of yours so I won't belabor that poin...

Re: Amerimax vinyl replacement window vs Milgard Tuscany
My experience with Amerimax in cold weather has been pretty bad. I've posted this on 2 other threads, but I'll re-post some things here. The weather stripping on Amerimax is horrible, you can feel cold air coming in. Right now, I have ice on the inside of my new Amerimax windows. Granted, it's sub-z...

Re: Simonton 5300 vs Amerimax Masters Grande
Don't know if you've made your decision yet, but I'd go with the Simonton windows. Amerimax windows are horrible. The weather stripping on the sash lets in a stream of cold air. My new Amerimax windows currently have ice on the inside. A week ago, I had the thermostat set to 58 at night, the low in ...

Re: Simonton 5500 Reflections vs. other choices
Whatever you do, don't get Amerimax windows. I had them installed in May. Now I have ice on the inside of all my windows. There is a significant draft of cold air between the sash and the frame. The weather stripping on the windows is horrible. I used more gas for heat this November vs last November...
