Re: Top window slides down when bottom window open, is this norm

A lot of the times the coil springs balancing the window need adjustment to make it tighter but sometimes they have not been shimmed correctly at the middle of the windows. a way to check is to measure from interior top jamb, middle jamb and bottom jamb. The measurement should be the same if the midd...

Re: Simonton vs. Anlin in Bay Area, CA

You may have done this already but maybe now that u narrowed what brand of window you will go with now it may be a good idea to price 2 other Simonton Dealers in your area.(if you havent done so already) that way you'll get the most for your money provided they check out. The Simonton website should...

Re: Simonton vs. Anlin in Bay Area, CA

I agree that claim is ridiculous. I would be more concerned with their blue printer measuring for the new windows correctly. Eikler style homes with large walls of glass tend to get out of square something terrible and accounting for this is imperative. Other wise they will have to chisel those 4x4 ...

City Girl, in regards to the screens and their warranty, i must say screens are the most under protected item in a window and window companies shy away from dedicating a lot of resources to service their screens because there is too many things that could hurt a fragile screen and screen cloth i.e P...

I am a small bussiness owner/salesman/installer and we do get tipped from time to time. We never expect it but when we do it feels great. I find it to be a great opportunity to show my guys that good service and attention to detail goes a long way. its hard nowadays to inculcate those values to empl...

. This is why most contractors will talk you out of it - too much work for them. It's amazinly easy to not have to touch the frame. Joe we use to cut back the aluminum frames to gain more glass area for people. however you can only do that on some type of frames. In our case here in the bay area yo...

Mailers and every type of advertising in this world is designed to get you to call and get a salesman in your house to sell you their windows.About the quality of their product it should be on a case by case basis. As far as the contractor telling you to order some local windows over Certainteed, th...

Hey WindowRep.....greetings  I am sorry i had you seeing red for a minute, i am very against bad salesmanship so i do get overzealous sometimes. I do not mean to offend any salesman out there as much as i am to make sure people do not get suckered. I own my small business and like you i am pres...

You are very correct, the vast majority of the companies out there use salesman. And i would say 99% of people are paid on commission. Now in any industry when you have salesman getting income only if they sell, you will get salesman that resort to extreme b.s to sell you a good window right there a...

Some people sell "paint for vinyl" online. And i do not doubt that it could be done but i know that 99.9% of the window manufacturers will void your warranty in a heartbeat. I have seen it done howevere and alot of companies have painted their windows but they do not warrant them for life like unpai...

I think that is a draw...both are pretty good windows and as far as pricing goes i have seen inflated prices on every window under the sun so i guess it goes back to shopping around and above all to check out your contractor's license and insurances.

I wouldn't call it a trick as much as one of the tools to demonstrate the advantages of having glass with Loe or Loe2 on your windows. I use it if i get a hands on kind of customer but i do not use it as a rule of thumb. Not that it isn't a good tool...it is a trick if you mislead people into thinki...

If they are supplying the door it is reasonable. if the quote is just for labor at least for San Francisco Bay Area Standards that is kind of high. I would charge for labor from 600 to 800 dollars for a vinyl door...of course for a wood door the price would go up.. Hope it helps E-Z www.eazywindows....

Sorry to hear about your problem. I personally do not like to beat frames to retrofit windows as you obviously create problems instead of fixing them. Some existing aluminum windows were not welded at the miters. In fact a lot of existing windows were butt jointed with only 2 screws and a dab of sil...
