Re: What would you do if your potential installer ... ?

I appreciate the help. I have been wondering how to confront this guy. Why would you need to confront him? My understanding is you never ordered or signed anything from him--it was just an estimate. You then contacted the BBB and learned he outright LIED to you--the BBB NEVER recommends a contracto...

Re: Alside, Amsco, Amerimax, Jeldwen or Anlin--would like advice

Have spent several months researching windows and have pretty much narrowed it down to vinyl. Our requirements are: -Custom sizing -Dark brown exterior/white interior (this eliminates a lot of companies) -Must qualify for Tax Credit -We plan to stay here so we would like a good quality window that ...

Re: anyone know about Simonton 7500 series

I sell the Simonton windows in Los Angeles area but the Simonton windows come from Vacaville up north so they would offer the same windows and options. I tell you that the 7500 comes with either Low-e272 and argon or Low-e366 (which is the triple lowe) and argon. Superspacer and intercept are the t...

Look under roofing and siding supply and call and ask for a referal to a NITPICKER ( club of installers).
Could you elaborate on what a NITPICKER is?

Re: Replacement Windows in North East

You could work with your Pella sales person and get him to put it in writing, but he is probably off the hook since the vice president of Pella has published the following disclaimer on their web page devoted to promoting the federal tax rebate: Pella Corporation and its sales partners assume no li...

Re: Replacement Windows in North East

I like the Pella because it is triple pane and has the blindes or shades that can be inserted. I like the Havey Tribute because it too is triple pane but it does not have the blindes for shade option. I think you are missing an opportunity to get the most of this board. Since you don't really know ...

"Transferable" Warranties - Who Cares?

A lot gets mentioned about transferrable warranties here. It got me thinking to the process of buying a home and what impact that would have on a buyer. I know a lot of roofs have transferrable warranties. I have NEVER heard any home buyer care less or make a decision based on that. Usually they jus...

Re: Simonton 7500 vs Milgard Tuscany

Hi, I need some advice. I am skeptical with the advice from a salesperson. We live in the bay area, CA and are replacing dual pane aluminum window. We have a stucco exterior with eifs (styrofoam buildouts) around the window. I guess that is standard for construction 10 years ago. We originally were...

Re: Milgard vs Anlin vs Atrium/Magic in SoCal

As far as the Milgard, make sure that the quotes are for the TUSCANY. Do NOT even consider the "styleline" model!

Some people will say that Anlin is a better window. However, in this economic climate, it is important to know that Anlin is a small company with only ONE plant.

President Obama Mentions Windows in Speech?

Did anyone see the Presidential news conference Tuesday night? I'm not sure if it was in the opening speech or the Q&A, but (and I was slightly distracted) I could swear he said in reference to a point on energy reform that "today I met with the owner of a new factory in PA that makes some ...

Probably not. Chicago is certainly what I would consider a harsh climate. There is a very well respected member of this board that is an industry professional and can be contacted via the "Get a Quote" button. Window4U is his screen name and he is one of the best. [urlh]ttp://www.vinyl-re...

Re: tax credit qualifying windows in Phoenix: need advice!

I think you are looking in the wrong place. Home Depot, as has been said a million times here, subcontracts out the installation, so you really don't know who will actually be doing the job.

Go to the Milgard website and look up a dealer there. Same with other brands in vinyl.

Re: insulation question

There is zero comparison between the two. Anyone who is recommending against a low-expansion foam is unfortunately mistaken. But does that answer the actual question? If they don't "normally use foam" (usual translation: we never used foam), is it really better to have an installer say he...
