Re: triple pane windows ruin hardware ????/
The concerns about the weight of triple pane have been on the balances, casement (crank out)hardware and seal failure. The balance concern is kind of silly because the unit used in any given window size has to account for it's weight and the size of the sash. All this is figured out in advance so th...

Re: What are the top window brands for the self-installer?
Are you talking about replacements? Nationally you will get sucked into the Big Box stores and their not so great offerings. In your local market you can do better by checking out small wholesalers and small lumberyards willing to sell you direct. Oftentimes a window is sold as a high-end product in...

Re: Can Glass Packs be installed "backward"?
I agree with jsmomo in the sense that a manufacturer will always (hopefully always) put the same sticker on the same side of the glass. If the glass packs had any stickers on them - the advertising type like "Anderson Windows" will always face out. Other info like NFRC certifications, u-va...

Re: Reasonable price for installation of Harvey Vinyl Windows?
Project-out windows (casements, awnings etc) do cost more, especially in a Double Hung market like New England. If you were to go to, say - Montreal, it is the exact opposite. Harvey is a respected regional manufacturer who definately gets a slight premium for their products. Vinyl windows meeting t...
