Admitingly I am no where nearly as knowledgable as others on this forum, but I must say that the Krypton gas sounds like a gimmick to me. I am not so certain that you'd really need triple pane window in central NY. Krypton and argon are both inert, noble gases, but Krypton is rare and more expensive...

I haven't seen Brothers windows, so I really couldn't comment on it. But I have heard the Super Spacer warm edge system to be a superior product. I have found Milgard's sliding door to be a very solid product. It is by far one of the beefiest doors out there. The new construction style presents a re...

Go for it! They are one of the best both in terms of window quality and salesmanship. Yuri was my rep, zero pressure sale. Price was very reasonable, 2nd least expensive amongst five contractors I interviewed with.

Strange, I'v narrowed down to these exact two as well. I decided to order a combination of both: I like the stainless tape system in the Certainteed vs Milgard's nylon cord as far as the double-hung goes. Milgard's lock systems seems to be fool-proof for the operator but Certainteed's cam-lock syste...

Demroyer, I just went through the very exact same thing you did. Solication sale, model home discount, blah blah, blah, and signed a contract to get the discount. Well, then I discovered this forum and read up, asked some Qs, and got 4 more quotes with a variety of windows of similar grade in the ne...

I just had my 5th and last visit from a contractor, using Amerimax window. And he brought up a couple points for me to consider: 1. The large windows I have are dual double hungs flanking a picture window. The contractor said that H frames are used to put the 3 pieces together on job site, as Amerim...

Well, I've more or less answered my own question. Short answer is NO. I contacted a total of 6 companies and gathered 5 bids. Brands of windows that I was presented with: Amerimax, Aniline, Simmonton, Polybau and Milgard. As far as the quality of the window goes, they are all very close with the exc...

Is $15K too high for this job?

OK, after spending the last two hours reading through the threads, I think I need some help from the pros on this forum.
