Re: Future of Starmark and stuck in window limbo

Okna is changing extruders for the Starmark line. If I remember correctly the old was a Royal extrusion, the new is a Chelsea extrusion. Hang tight, they will have the transition done soon.
I have seen the new double hung, extremely nice.

Re: Simonton vs. Sunrise

If air infiltration is the most important, why do so many window companies make it impossible to find?
Because they are embarrassed about the test results.

Re: Do I need full-frame replacement, and how do I vet the quote?

My response to the OP was comparing a vinyl insert replacement compared to a vinyl full frame( which can be done with or with out a fin). Thus the wood on the outside is completely done away with. The OP asked for a understanding about the two different types of installs, I feel I gave the most thro...

Re: Do I need full-frame replacement, and how do I vet the quote?

There are typically to groups of window replacement companies with their particular bend/orientation. There are those that do inserts replacement. There are those that do do full frame. You can usually tell which is which by how they propagandize their orientation. Benefits of full frame: Visible gl...

Re: Recommendations in SW Michigan?

The mfg sometimes can help recommend someone in your area.
Certifications can also help good people.
Installation Masters is an independent certification that can sometimes help point towards the right type of person.

Re: Recommendations in SW Michigan?

Do you have any thoughts as to the ttype of material you want to use or the best install method? You can choose from clad wood, vinyl or fiberglass. The two most common install types are insert or full frame. If you have any other details, like outside color, inside finish, budget, etc, I might be a...

Re: Am I Going Insane?

I still think that pricing is high based on the sales tactics. Sometimes I even have some inconsistancies in pricing. For instance if you have a twin DH and it is an existing wood DH: if we do it as a pocket install it is two windows with two installs, if it is a full frame it is a twin(two windows ...

Re: Window installation warranty question

I used to do a one year install warranty. But in my market two year seems to be more the norm. I also think it is reasonable for all concerned.
I life time labor warranty tends to be to burdensome and full of legal tricks as well.

Re: Replacement Windows- Please Help! Sunrise vs. MI

I too would go Sunrise, make a great casement.
I like full frame. You should save gain 1 sq ft or more of glass with full frame. There is additional cost for full frame both in material cost and labor. So make sure you know if the interior casing is prefinished.
