FOAM FILLED

Your contractor was probably referring to the use of expanding foam used between the new window frame and the interior drywall, not the frame itself. Milgard has concerns about the use of the foam that if not done properly will expand and cause the frame to bow. We are a certified Milgard dealer and...

Classic Versus Styeline

Removing the wood trim is not necessary for the installation you described. The fin of the window (zbar) is designed to be cut to fit within the wood trim. And just a few additions: 1) Classic = 3/4" airspace (1/8" glass x 2) = 1" overall 2) Styeline = 1/2" airspace (1/8" gl...

3/16" inch on the outboard pane is much better price performance wise then laminated glass. Milgard classic vinyl with 3/16" out, 1/8" inside gives an stc rating of 34. Laminated out with 1/8 annealed in (at almost double the price) only gives a 35-36 (barely noticable difference). As...

A reasonable install rate, including the cost of the window and labor would be at the $500 per window. So, 21 windows should run around $10,500. That's what our typicall install runs in socal using Milgard Classic Vinyl windows.

Check the warranties. Simonton does not offer any labor guarantee on their waranty. Certainteed offers only 5 years. If seal failure were to occur (the most expensive repair on a window) then replacement labor costs could run you $100 per window. Milgard, if its available, offers a full lifetime gua...
