Re: Gorell vs Sunrise for Massachusetts climate?

I have Sunrise double and triple pane windows in my house and I'd have to say you're going to lose the heat from the sun's rays in winter regardless of which one you choose. You can feel the sun a little in spring and fall with the double pane when the sun is stronger but it's still minor. You reall...

Re: Good Product/Bad Install

Have you thought about choosing the style of window based on aesthetics? If you choose a good window manufacturer, the air infiltration will likely be good regardless of the style. I have casements, double hungs, sliders and picture windows in my house and I really haven't noticed much of a differen...

Re: triple vs double pane in sunrise windows?

I have both double pane and triple pane Restorations in my house. All my triple panes are double hungs and they're definitely more difficult to open than my double pane sliders but not enough to not recommend getting the triple if it's the same price as double. I would double check what you're getti...

Re: Champion Windows - South of Boston?

I'm from the area as well and I avoided them based on what I heard from friends. I couldn't tell you anything about their windows but it sounded like they were pricey. Not sure if they they employed the car-dealer tactics of continually coming down in price or they were simply expensive, but either ...

Re: Reference Checks

Driving by gives you a chance to see things you might not ordinarily see in the pictures contractors provide. At the very least, you'll get to see whether their work passes the curbside appeal test. You might even see how well the install has passed the test of time. But realistically, not much else...

Re: Reference Checks

Like you, I've never seen negative feedback from a reference the contractor gave me but I still think they're very useful. I like to get local ones so I can drive by the house and take a look and see for myself the quality of the work. If the contractor gives me enough of them, I generally have a be...

Re: My Window Reviews for Massachusetts

Thanks for posting a follow up with your experience. I'm glad we were able to help you find the right window for you. Best Wishes. I've been lazy as hell but I'll probably post a few pics when I get around to it. So far I'm pretty happy with our choice and I never would have known about Sunrise wit...

Re: Vinyl Replacement window in New Negland

Sky, that's not how I meant it. I understand the variables that go into one company's pricing over another. But that shouldn't result in a 100% markup. I'm just saying it's not uncommon around here to get estimates from companies that average well over $1000 for a vinyl window and expect people to g...

Re: Vinyl Replacement window in New Negland

I live in metrowest and ended up putting Sunrise Restorations in my house. Nice window but so are the others that Buddy mentioned. MPK is correct in that pricing is seemingly all over the map. But that really depends on how honest or crooked the salesperson you're dealing with is. Good luck.

Hey Pondscum,
Not sure if you made a decision yet but I wanted to let you know I just had the Restorations installed last week and thought they did a good job. I believe you were looking at the same guy I was so I thought you'd like to know how it went.

Re: Alside Excalibur & Harvey Classic Quotes

I live in the area as well and I'd recommend shopping around a little more. If you're looking for the cheapest than you probably found what your looking for. If you want something better that will last a long time then I would check out some other brands. Those big bay windows you have are usually p...

Leaky Basement Hoppers URGENT

It's been unusually rainy here and two of my basement hoppers have suddenly started leaking. My wife says it's like Niagara Falls. The caulking around the edges needs to be redone but I can't do that at the moment. Aside from making sure there hasn't been a huge build up of debris in the wells, is t...

Re: Need advice QUICK!

My best advice is cancel your contract and look around a bit more. If, in the end, you still like one of these windows better than the other, their deal will still be on the table. You might even have more leverage to negotiate a better offer. One trap people like us fall into is the pressure to sig...
