Re: Replacing replacement windows again in Colorado

There's also a Sunrise Vanguard dealer in the Denver area, and Sunrise Restorations in Colorado Springs.

Re: Vinyl replacement windows in boston area

Snort. I had a Renewal by Andersen guy in before I knew any better, and he quoted me almost $2000/window. I pretty much laughed him out of the house. I ended up getting Sunrise Restorations put in, and liked them well enough that, after moving from Boston to Colorado, I've just ordered another...

Re: From over 50 million in yearly sales to bankruptcy court

Re Penguin. When I first started researching windows for my last home in MA a couple years ago, it did not take more than a Google search to discover that Penguin was one of those "buyer beware" window companies, lots of horror stories about sleazy high-pressure sales tactics, etc. I seem ...

Re: Haggling for replacement windows?!

Reputable installers will give you a firm quote, not expect you to haggle, and not offer stupendous discounts if you sign today. You don't think the guys who can knock 40% off the price are taking a loss at that discount, do you? Or that they're going to pay their install crew 40% less? All it...

Re: North of Boston Area - Window Replacements

Here's a thread from a year ago that gives the run-down on the different brands available here in Boston: http://www.vinyl-replacement-windows.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3087 Like Copykatpro who posted that, I ended up with the Sunrise Restorations, and am pretty happy with them now. But this...

Re: Energy savings with window replacement

After getting my windows replaced last fall, I also noticed that the main improvement was comfort rather than energy savings. It's no longer 5 degrees colder upstairs than downstairs! :D

Re: Owens Corning Solace Vs Soft Lite elements

I investigated the OC Solace when I first started window shopping last year. It's a rebranded Sunrise Restorations window. You may be able to get a better deal on the same window from a Sunrise installer. The Restorations is their top-of-the-line model; the Vanguard is the next step down but basical...

Re: Slimest Profiles for Double Hung

Be prepared for high-pressure and high prices if you want the Sunrise Restorations. There is only one company in the area that offers it. The other Sunrise products available are lacking some features comparatively. PlyGem/Great Lakes has a VERY similar product(they were previously owned by the sam...

Re: Overwhelmed and need help

Sunrise windows come in a couple different tan/beige/neutral exterior colors. (I got the dark brown, myself.) They don't offer custom colors, though. Look on the manufacturer web sites for color choices and ask to see the color samples when you talk to the rep.

Re: Confusion over window replacement

Around here (Boston area), HD sells American Craftsman and Jeld-Wen vinyl windows, plus I think Andersen 200/400. I don't think I saw any Simonton windows or literature on display in their stores here, even for custom order.

Re: Confusion over window replacement

Re the trashing of whatever windows the poster is looking at. I think that is because the windows most people look at when they start window shopping really are not very good choices. Looking back on my own process last year, I started out looking at the advertising flyers I was getting in the mail ...

Re: Gorell vs Sunrise for Massachusetts climate?

Looking at my most recent gas bill (for February), I see that the average daily temperature was the same as last. Last year I used 3.8 therms/day at $1.67/therm, while this year it's 3.7 therms/day at $1.28/therm. But, my electric bill has also gone down by $15-$20/month, and here's why. Before I go...

Re: Gorell vs Sunrise for Massachusetts climate?

I got that 40% fuel savings guarantee with my new Sunrise windows last fall. You know what? First thing I noticed when I got my next gas bill was that gas prices per therm were about 40% lower than the previous year!

Re: Gorell vs Sunrise for Massachusetts climate?

I'm also in MA. I had the double-pane Sunrise Restorations put on my house last fall. I didn't think triple pane was worth it.... additional weight, lower VT, maybe higher probability of seal failure over the long run. And the double-pane seemed fine in terms of keeping my house warm over the winter...

Re: Gorell vs. Plygem - Need help chosing one

If you like the Sunrise Restorations except for the price, you might look to see if you can get a quote on the Sunrise Vanguard or "regular" Sunrise lines for comparison. The Restorations is their premium model. The Vanguard is almost identical (same construction, slightly different hardwa...
