Seems like any money spent on fixing your current windows would be basically wasted, you could maybe get through a couple more years with it but eventually you will need to do something. Its possible to replace the sashes with a thermalpane sashpack and then replace the sill, nose, stops, and brickm...

While your windows do just sit there, they need alot of important parts to be able to function properly and still keep the elements out. One of the things an installer does is compare the window's sight lines as they install them. The sashes should be parallel at the meeting rail and also parallel w...

The best way to do this is to cut back your siding, anywhere from 2 inches to 6 inches depending on the trim style on the rest of your house. If the house has brickmold around the doors/other trim areas plan to put brickmold around the windows, lots of 1x4 then plan to use that. Wether you use 1x4 o...

Just the thought of someone spending $300 for that window makes me cringe.

Altho others will disagree, nothing wrong with buying from HD in my opinion, but do yourself a favor and buy the Simonton window.

If you can only budget $3-$400/window keep getting estimates until you find a better option.

I think you are correct, Simonton only covers manufacturing defects and glass breakage. You may want to shop around some more, in your place I would feel like the company should specifically address this and I should feel comfortable with their program without me having to make a big deal out of it....

Its just a sign of the times, you drive past a wal-mart lately? Also it's not really a bait and switch in most cases, more like a la carte pricing. Brilliant idea on the part of the franchisor, they get paid for the franchise and then get paid from the window manufacturer for everything the franchis...

We installed several hundred of these windows a couple years ago. The window looked nice, had some nice features but mi's quality control was terrible. I think it was difficult for them to raise their standards from extremely cheap new construction products to replacement products. We had jobs that ...

The aluminum coil most companies use comes in either a flat painted finish (will normally say poly on the box) or with a sort of wood grain looking thin coat of vinyl ( will have pvc on the box). I think they do have a purely vinyl coil product but I'm not sure how well that would hold up in the sou...

I would be interested in knowing wether either of you went out and looked at other jobs by the company before buying. I'm not trying to be negative just honestly curious, it amazes me how few people will take the time to drive to 3 or 4 houses to see real completed jobs as opposed to just comparing ...

Glazing beads

One thing I've learned with simonton windows is that the glazing bead is VERY tight. On occasion I would swear it was too long if I hadn't just removed it 5 minutes ago to change a piece of glass! Your safest bet is gunna be to let the distributor deal with it, wether he decides to replace the sash ...

Thats a nice window, but thats a pretty steep price too. Theres a ton of pricing threads on here, do a little searching and you will be better able to decide if its a good value for you. Its not every day a guy gets to sell 35 windows in a wack, did you try to barter with them? If you didnt get othe...

I really am not familiar at all with your area, just would recommend the standard get a few estimates and go look at some jobs the companies you narrow it down to have done. I feel its safer to buy from large manufacturers that have been around a long time, more than once I've been a dealer for a re...

The parent company is Mi home products. They make mostly cheaper new construction products and in my experience have really poor quality control. The windows look nice and they have a good warranty, which you will probably be grateful for. I installed them for a short time and had a truly amazing am...
