Re: Sharing my energy results

Vinyl on 100%. It went over the existing t-111 with some rigid r-2 insulation to flatten some areas. But insulation was limited to providing a flat surface. The windows replaced were double pane aluminum with broken seals on just about all. It is really hard to have any clue how much of a difference...

Sharing my energy results

NStar just sent me a Home Energy Report. What is interesting about it, it compared our gas usage from 2009 to 2010. We heat with gas. We put Okna 500 Deluxe Windows in Sept 2009 along with some vinyl siding, so the report sheds some light on our gas usage and what our energy savings were potentially...

Re: Typical Glass Loss on Window Replacment

The other thing we did to minimize glass loss was to change window types in a few cases. In our bathrooms, we had a small slider. We changed this to an awning window. It actually gave us equal glass almost, better ventilation, with some additional cost. I would never have thought to do it, but our c...

Re: Energy savings with window replacement

I'd agree with others. The house seemed more comfortable, but the energy savings themselves seemed small and it was difficult to measure given he different ranges of temperature/prices of fuel. I replaced aluminum double pane with a Okna double pane. The condensation is gone on the frame, the draft ...

Re: Need help!- What to do

My experience with Home Depot was they were more expensive than local contractors who I thought had equally good options at least on the windows side. I did use them for installation of a vinyl Anderson slider door when I first moved into my house which I thought was expensive on labor, but since it...

Re: Good Deal? (Okna 500 Windows)

I completed an installation of Okna windows about 3 weeks ago. I did 1 Bay ( 2 casements and a picture windows, 600 series ), 6 500 Series Deluxe Slides, and 3 610 Awnings. I'm very pleased with the windows. The quotes I received for the Okna bay were lower than other manufactures and it looks great...

Tax Credit on a Bay Window

I recently had a Okna bay Window installed. The three windows makng up the Bay all meet the energy standards for the tax credit. Can I use the cost of the bay toward my energy tax credit? If so, the entire cost of window?

Re: Bay Window

Julia, We just replaced a bow window with a bay windows during our recent window project which also included vinyl siding. One of the quotes I received was to do new glass inserts on the bow window rather than replacing the window structure itself. It was far cheaper but we stil decided to do the fu...

Manufacturer’s Certification Statement, Okna

I sent an email to Okna trying to get a Manufacturer’s Certification Statement. They told me this would be provided by my installer. Shouldn't this statement be coming from Okna?

Re: Anyone heard of National Vinyl Products in MA

We never considered the Starmark. Mostly out of ignorance, but also because its a mid-range house and I didn't believe using higher end products was really going to help my resale. I was mostly concerned with replacing ugly metal frame, very inefficient windows that had broken seals / panes in many ...

Re: Anyone heard of National Vinyl Products in MA

I'm using Watertite in Natick. They were the ones who suggested the Okna window. I had not heard of them before I started my window replacement search.

The install started on Thursday.
