Re: HELP PLEASE - Rockland County, NY - Confused!

Low-e glass will let in plenty of light in fact unless you had 2 windows side by side, one with and one without I doubt you would notice. Most don't. Price doesn't always assure quality but get the best window your budget will allow. You can't overkill on replacement windows.

Re: Good Deal? (Okna 500 Windows)

Ah Yeah! I wouldn’t touch it for that. Especially with the box bay. It makes me angry to see jobs under sold at the installer’s expense. I would take the time to check out several of their installations. It takes many years to become a window installation pro. And by pro I mean no job too tough, no ...

Re: Standard window gap allowed for window size

There is no standard gap for any retrofit installation. The gap allowed depends on several different things. One of the main reasons for more takeoff on a particular opening is "How square the opening is. You have to leave enough room to square the new window up. 1" is rather extreme but i...

Re: Installation Dilemma!!

The reply WOW gave will work well also. If your cut backs are good and straight you might get by with just caulking and not the 1/4 round but you have to be the judge. Other factors also apply.

Re: Should I insist on foam vs fiberglass insulation?

Some manufactures will void the warranty if foam is used. Also if vinyl windows are being installed I would not want to chance getting any foam on any part that can be seen. I don't know of any way to remove it.

Re: Simonton 5500 quote help

The type of installation might have something to do with the price as well. But the price you were quoted doesn't seem too far off. If a company has first class professional installers then they are worth the extra money. A bad installation can make even the best windows perform poorly. That said pa...

Re: Jeld Wen Evertone

My mistake. I thought we were talking about a clad window. Jeld-Wen has a good vinyl window I should have researched the Evertone model name before I shot my mouth off. I was unfamiliar with the Evertone name for their vinyl windows. Not sure why I assumed it was a clad though because I believe thei...
