Re: Vytex Windows
I've seen that has been an issue on some of the posts. Aside from warranty are the windows of decent quality? Thanks This one makes me shake my head. These are the types of posts that end up being "I had these Vytex windows installed in my home by some slick, well dressed 22 year old kid from ...

Re: Wincore vs. Gorell?
That's interesting. Their window is about as close to a Simonton as you can get and their performance numbers are virtually identical. I agree with you about their sales pitch. That comes from Dave Jagdman who really needs to turn the National Sales Manager duties over to someone else. He's done a g...

Re: Wincore 5400
The Wincore 5400 is their lowest end product. It is comparable to the Simonton 5050. If you want an apples-to-apples comparison, compare the Wincore 7700 to the Simonton 5500. Both are very similar windows and they are priced almost identically. You can't go wrong with either one. But I would defini...

Re: Dove Windows vs Gorell Windows
I would avoid Dove like the plague. HORRIBLE reputation for quality and service. Gorelle, however, is the direct opposite. Excellent product, reputable company.

Re: Wincore vs. Gorell?
Wincore makes an exceptional window. It's based on Veka extrusions and it is very strong, and very well engineered. They're a rather new company founded by a bunch of people who left Simonton after Fortune Brands purchased them. They have the know-how and experience to make an excellent window. Sale...

Re: Backer Rod....
What about the foam wrap that Simonton offers as an option on their windows? It's inexpensive, and it accomplishes your ultimate goal. I'm just not really all that hung up on filling the gaps with insulation or foam or whatever when it comes to ultimate performance of the whole system. You're caulki...

They are painted. They have an outside vendor doing it for them and it entails an extended lead time.

Yes. You need at .30 U value or lower to qualify for the tax credit. It's easily attainable with the right glazing package. I'll give you more details when I get back to the office on Monday. Once again, I'd really recommend you going a different route and getting an estimate from a couple of indepe...

Skydawg is right on the money with his suggestion. Go with an independent contractor, request the window that Skydawg's suggesting and you'll be dollars ahead.

Re: Serious Materials Quantum2 windows v. Simonton 9800
To echo what Sky said, the difference in the performance numbers comes in HOW the windows are tested. It's like a car, it will show a different horsepower rating if you test it at the engine or at the rear wheels. Windows will have higher center of glass (COG) ratings than they will overall unit rat...

Re: Any experience with Viwinco Cambridge series?
I would strongly reconsider the Simonton. I'm sure you can get a more competitive price on the 5500, or ask your Viwinco guy for a price on Simontons. I'd be willing to bet that the distributor who he buys them from also offers the Simontons. I'm not a fan of Viwinco's at all. Their quality control ...

Re: Serious Materials Quantum2 windows v. Simonton 9800
Seems like a little bit of the old skool smoke and mirrors has returned. Anyone remember the old literature piece that Great Lakes put out that showed their tested air infiltration number at 0.00? They were sued in court to provide a copy of the test results and in the details of the section, it sta...
