Re: Sunrise (base - not essentials) vs Soft-lite Imperial LS

+1. Just know that on a half screen, while it can slide back and forth, it only seals when it is over the inner sash panel. If you move it to the other side there is a gap. Half vs full is personal preference more than anything, and unless you really want to have both sash panels partially open, the...

Re: Sunrise (base - not essentials) vs Soft-lite Imperial LS

Agreed.... I'd also agree with masterext above about the guy that maybe is a little more aggressive to get your business. Feeling a little bit of urgency from a sales guy just means that he's doing his due diligence, but certainly trying to pressure you, strong arm you, or lie to you is another stor...

Re: Sunrise (base - not essentials) vs Soft-lite Imperial LS

I'd agree with the others that on product alone, the LS is superior. The caveat of course is the installation. If that and the company providing it seem much more competent with one company or the other, that could push a decision one way or the other as the difference in product is not drastic.... ...

Re: Two quotes so far

Provia uses a Deceuninck extrusion whereas polaris does not. Bear in mind, there are a few variations of the Deceuninck design. I have seen at least 3 differemt versions myself, all being somewhat similar but definitely different. That is what I was referring to. I mistakenly assumed that Polaris u...

Re: Two quotes so far

They are built on the same extrusion? My mistake Todd, I thought that was what you were alluding to. Your comment on them being the same is even more puzzling if that is not the case. I know that the Provia unit shares its extrusion with a handful of other products, I assumed that the Polaris model...

Re: Two quotes so far

I won't speak for others, but I'd say that there can still be some pretty major differences in quality and performance even when the extrusion is the same. The extrusion is really just the baseline material, it still needs QC in assembly, glass selection, spacer, weatherstripping, hardware, foam (or...

Re: Two quotes so far

Thats a pretty small number of reviews. Certainly deeper digging could reveal more about them (good or bad), however it would be nice to find a company with a little more review volume to gauge by. On price, you are probably getting dinged with a small job fee of some sort on 3 windows. On window br...

Re: Two quotes so far

shbrowns, if you can't find a much of a track record on either company, that is not ideal. Sure you could still get a good finished product, but its a bit more of an unknown when there's not much to go on.

Re: Two quotes so far

Both fine products, prices seem to be close. I'd take a closer look at the install and the company performing it. Unless that is a tossup as well, I'd probably choose based on that.

Re: Newly installed window leaking and installer will not take resp.

We've had the same thing happen to us 4-5 years ago. Brand new windows. Luckily, the installer was nice enough to fix it at his own cost. It wasn't even a discussion so I'm not sure if that's standard practice. Standard practice in most cases where the issue is likely due to an installation defect,...

Re: Newly installed window leaking and installer will not take resp.

Good info above. I'd only add that many window installations, including yours as it would appear, are dependent in at least some degree on the existing wall cladding and water management system. There may or may not be something that could be done in terms of flashing, however it would not be standa...

Re: Trying to choose a patio door.

I do not believe that the Thermal door is worth $400 more, no. Frankly, I'd personally prefer the Polaris even at a slight premium, although I will say that the Thermal door is not bad at all and would likely serve you well. I'd suggest digging a little more into each company offering these products...

Re: Trying to choose a patio door.

Polaris would be my choice out of your final two... Don't lose any sleep over the Ultrex unit btw. It's solidly built, but I never fail to get complaints on air leakage when we've used them by request.
