Re: Spare parts for White Corona 4000 series Schuco windows

I'd keep searching for superior glass. Perhaps the original installer has a new line that he/she can source glass from? I've also special ordered glass from local supplier with Low e, argon, and composite spacer. Even Cardinal glass with a stainless spacer, while a different look, would be a nice op...

Re: Pella 350 vs Okna 800 (What to do?)

I agree, spray foam is preferred. In addition, the installation with nail fin and without removing the interior trim seems a little dicey. They must have the jamb depth measurement perfect and also use a creative means of insulating the cavity as Window Nerd described... Hard to say if anything is b...

Re: Pella 350 vs Okna 800 (What to do?)

WoW, thanks for the input! I feel a lot more comfortable with the installation method proposed by the Okna installer in terms of long term performance of the windows. Is the installation method factoring into your opinion? One thing I am not clear on yet is whether the Okna 800 standard deluxe pack...

surface 4 coatings are a band-aid for mediocre glass... and... a possible recipe for customer disappointment and complaints.

Re: Pella 350 vs Okna 800 (What to do?)

I'll defer to the guys closer to you as far as the SunSeal vs Standard. My stressing of the VT, SHGC, and CR are far more important in a northern climate like mine, however it sounds like the consensus is that even in your more mild climate the standard package is better and the surface 4 coating is...

Re: Pella 350 vs Okna 800 (What to do?)

If I'm not mistaken there is/was a "Sunshine" window company... perhaps they are out of business. On the other stuff, I agree with WoW's advice and would only add a few minor points: 1) As WOW closed with on this topic, the VT rating is where its at and will be pretty telling as to how noticeable yo...

Re: Pella 350 vs Okna 800 (What to do?)

The Okna 800 is superior to Sunrise in DH and Slider configuration. Much closer comparison in casement. As WoW alluded to, the exterior detail will be similar between the two, and in fact most vinyl windows will have some detail like that to "dress up" the screen track. On the installation, the Okna...

Re: Full Frame Window Replacement from Interior Only?

Chris, we used to have contact buttons on here but they seem to be gone... If you google "the window nerd" you'll find the right guy. Wayne and his team are very good at what they do, you would be in good hands if that works out.

Re: Gorell window replacement

The price for option 3 sounds reasonable, and Cardinal glass is very good. I'd go that route and odds are that you will not have to replace again.

Re: Full Frame Window Replacement from Interior Only?

Chris, I rarely ever recommend anything like this as it is really a last resort, but you may consider getting your homeowner's insurance involved. Then your insurance and that of the Condo assoc can hash things out in terms of who/what is really to blame, which will likely require some in depth and ...

Re: Gorell window replacement

+1. First, if they are still around, I'd contact your installation dealer. Hopefully they can help. 2) Softlite originally purchased the assets of Gorell and had been manufacturing service parts for a bit, not sure if they are still doing so. That would be a potential option. 3)If not, (or maybe eve...

Re: Full Frame Window Replacement from Interior Only?

but everything I see here says STUCCO is the culprit. Especially this kind of fake stucco system without proper z-bar flashings. Agreed. Real hornet's nest here between the height, stucco, active leaking, etc. Please don't be offended by this, but most good contractors that aren't desperate for wor...

Re: Pella 350 vs Okna 800 (What to do?)

I'd agree with the others... YES, the Okna is superior. The fact that they are actually less expensive as quoted in this case is a bonus, and gives you $1700 of credit for whatever Lowes would charge to let you out of it. Even if it was the full $3k, I'd say that you are still in a good spot paying ...

Re: Fortis of Potomac?

My point is, at $500 per window, I don't know how a company is making money and/or planning on being able to service the install/customer after the fact. Don't get me wrong, I don't comment on things like price because of the varying costs of doing business in different parts of the country, but th...

Elements doesnt have sagging issues at all. A few negative reviews from a company that has been in business a long time isnt unusual and i wouldnt pay attention to that. Some customers enjoy giving bad reviews. the old 15 minutes of fame thing. I think that there may be a mixup here. The Softlite e...
