Re: Affordable Simulated Divided Lite (SDL) Options?

I have used Ply Gem Windows with their SDL grid on quite a few homes over the past 2 years with no issues. IMHO, Ply Gem makes a "decent" window and the price is right. I can not say whether it was the 400 series or not.

Re: Check this out...

Being in Oregon I have felt the affects of the Washington State crackdown. These companies have NOT changed their ways. They are coming to Oregon instead.

Re: Help - Totally Confused on Which Brand Windows to Choose

Atrium Windows is our #1 brand, Empire Pacific is #2, and we highly recommend either brand as a low priced, mid-quality window with a lifetime warranty.

Re: CertainTeed or Hayfield

I have never heard of Hayfield. As for CertainTeed, I am not aware that they are making windows any longer as Ply Gem bought their window division. Ply Gem makes various lines and some are better than others so more info is needed.

Re: Patio Door Replacement

I could install a decent standard 6.0 x 6.8 for 1/2 of those prices.....and be happy. But 6.6 is not standard and that would add 50% to cost of the door itself.

Re: Help choosing replacement windows in SW Riverside County CA

There are not that many brands that I would say "stay away" from. You mentioned one of them.

Empire Pacific, Atrium, and Ply Gem are 3 that would provide you with a quality product, a lifetime warranty and won't break the bank.

Re: Patio Door Replacement

Something does not seem right. You say "standard", but 78" tall is not standard....and that may be why all the prices quoted seem quite high to me.

EcoStar Windows wrote:+1 I agree. Prices didn't go up when the tax credit became available.
Exactly. If we didn't raise our prices when the credit became available what is there to lower later?

Re: Comparing Apples with Apples

Since we carry many brands of windows, and very often are asked to provide quotes on more than one brand, we always separate the window price from the labor price. It's just the way we do it because it makes it easier to compare window brand pricing. Labor is based on installation method, number of ...

Re: Trying to make sense of all this (replacing windows)

There are many good window brands to choose from. Choose one that offers a lifetime warranty, that is most of them. Finding the right dealer/installer is the tough part. Seems to me that you would not have written your note here if the dealer/installers you've talk to so far had made you feel "...

Re: Kitchen & Bath - Casement vs. Awning vs. Double Hung

1) Kitchen Sink - 36W x 38H. Currently, we have a double hung over the kitchen sink. At 5ft. tall, it's a challenge to reach over the sink and near impossible to budge what exists. 2) Bathroom - 24W x 46H. Currently, a double hung in a tub area. A casement would be the perfect window in your kitche...

Re: Certainteed/Viwinco Windows Poor Quality and Warranty

I had 16 Certainteed windows installed in 2001. Soon after 8 sashes seals failed and the windows clouded. They sent new ones. Then three more went. They sent new sashes for me to install. Then I had 5 more fail. Now they won;t replace them, just send me the glass. I got a bad cut. They told me the ...

Re: Milgard u-factor

I think you are getting concerned over nothing. Different styles of windows and even sizes can ultimately affect the final U-factor. A .01 difference is perfectly acceptable. How upset would you have been if they came in at .28? Would you feel you should pay more since you got more than you paid fo...

Re: nature of the beast

this is my first experience buying windows and i have to admit the replacement window industry is bizarre. it seems there are two sides of the fence. on one side you have every contractor offering THEIR great low/mid grade replacement vinyl window (atrium, alside, ideal, thermal industries, etc) th...

Re: Weathershield Visions 2000 Leaking Problems - How do we Proc

Wow, sorry to have to pile on to your bad news, but I have to agree with most of what's been said. I too stopped carrying Weathershield. Not because of the quality of their product, but because of their lack of integrity when it came time to solve customer's problems....both vinyl and wood. I'm not ...
