So that's a Home Depot salesman's pitch. We local small businessmen who live our entire lives and raise our families in the towns we serve are not worthy of doing business with, .....because someday we'll retire or maybe win the lottery? How ridiculous. How long has Home Depot even been installing ...

I keep waiting to read the part where he admits that casing covers, insulation around the installed window and lowE are UPGRADES and you have to pay extra for them. Oh wait, he can't admit that.. duh!! btw, as of September, Home depot's shills "close" at an average of 12% nationwide, on a...

Re: Reply

Ok... time to put my boots on. "When a seal is broken or on the way - typically condesation will develop between the panes -- and over time the LOW E will also oxidze and show a definitive haze." Wrong... the spacers are completely filled with desiccant and will absorb infiltrating moistu...

Re: Reply

THD The information you provided is misleading. THD: "the truth on triple pane windows is that you will have better (HIGHER) inside glass temperature as the third pane is nothing more than a heat reflective film " That would be Heat Mirror... not a true triple-pane with three pieces of gl...

THD I believe that your posts are genuine, to you... but unfortunately, many of them are innaccurate as I have responded to a few already with facts. I have no intention of chasing each of your bombardment of posts. Since you like quotes, "Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does ...

Check the warranties. Simonton does not offer any labor guarantee on their waranty. Certainteed offers only 5 years. If seal failure were to occur (the most expensive repair on a window) then replacement labor costs could run you $100 per window. Milgard, if its available, offers a full lifetime gu...

ahhhhhh yes - the many myths...

Better read that warranty a little closer. Try paying attention to the exclusions. BTW, I have several HD warranty's for American Craftsman, et al windows right here. I use it to compare to other companies all the time. BTW, my company warrants installation. That's what you get when you use company...

Re: Pella Thermastar v. Reliabilt 7000

I went to Lowes last night to look at the Pella Thermastar. The sales associate tried to sell me on the Reliabilt 7000. She claimed they were "much better" windows. Anyone have an opinion on either of these two windows. I have also looked at the Simonton windows Home Depot installs (as I ...

Re: Gas Filled

Just curious I've always wondered, how can you confirm the gas that is supposed to be in your windows, is in the window? I know what a broken seal looks like but, how do you know it's in there from the begining? Can you expose the window to some sort of special light or something to confirm the gas...

Re: HELP ... please

I just purchased my first home and want to replace the windows ... the house is 63 years old and still has the original drafty windows. Unfortunately I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to home repair and feel a little overwhelmed. I read about some type of double paned window that will help c...

Re: Energy savings from using triple pane instead of double

Suppose I have 16 double-hung windows, with the size of 31x48. Double-hungs having two panes with low E and argon seem to have a U of around 0.32, plus or minus. Triple panes seem to be around 0.22, give or take. How do I calculate how much energy the triple pane will save me vs. the double pane? I...

Re: Newbie question, searched for info but could not find

New to this forum and to Vinyl windows in general - be nice...... Have taken the time to do some research - here, and elsewhere and could not find much on American Weather Seal's Evershield windows. Had a 'sales' presentation and was provided a sales brochure, overall was happy with the process. My...

Re: Input on these quotes from Alside, Soft-lite and Simonto

Hello all, This board has been extremely helpful in learning about windows and what to look for and avoid. My husband and I live in Boston area and would love input on the quotes we've received. We're replacing 22 dh windows and a 3-light slider. For dual-glazed, argon and low-e: Alside Excalibur -...

Re: Pricing Strategy and Negotiation

I'm in the process of getting quotes for 7 "normal size/shape" windows in my home (3 DH and 4 slider). I'm concentrating on double-pane, low-e, argon filled for now, because I want efficiency, but my area is not extremely cold or hot (though a bit more hot than cold). Quotes: Sears: Simon...
