ha ha, yeah- I've seen that too, I think most of the people who put it up work at night and sleep during the day. (either that or they're doing something inside that they don't want us to see!)

...still waiting for others to chime in!

Aluminum foil on windows

You know, a long time ago at a window dealers' meeting they discussed why it was bad to put aluminum foil on windows- it had something to do with heat buildup inside the IGU's I believe. I just want to have my info right. And from an energy perspective, aluminum foil does absolutely nothing to preve...

Obviously, there are varying degrees of "rot". In our company, we try to use good judgment. We do not replace sills that have only minor damage which are otherwise solid. However when the damage has rotted a sill to the point that it is punky on the corners, or soft across the front, we ob...

Insulation may not be needed in parts of Texas, but where I live it is! I'm just guessing that your replacement windows with nailing fin will not be as thick as the windows you currently have... but I could be wrong. Depending on where the nailing fin is located on your new windows, they may...

Argon and Krypton are inert gasses that are heavier than air. As such, they have slightly better insulating values than plain air. Their density also provides slightly better sound dampening properties when compared with air. As I understand it, in order for gas to have effective insulating properti...

Some companies use flappers on their weep holes, but as I mentioned, I don't believe Gorell does. They are not necessary since, if I recall correctly, Gorell uses a different type of weep hole, smaller with open cell fiber inside.

Not sure what the solution may be. Not even sure that's what it is.

On the outside of your windows near the bottom left and right sides, you should see 2 rectangle shaped holes. These are the weep holes, which allow any water inside the frame to harmlessly escape.

I don't think their weep holes have flappers on them... so the only other thing I could think of is that maybe there are some vinyl scraps caught inside the masterframe that might be moving around inside the frame when the wind blows into the weep holes. Try putting a piece of tape over the weep hol...

ideally, doors should be set on top of pan flashings. Problem is, very few places require them, and very few installers like to use them. At a minimum, I like to install some ice and water shield (a self-sticking membrane- there are several brands) across the bottom of the opening, then out and over...

No offense taken! Being from Nebraska, we also get our share of cold weather. It was -20F the other day when I left for work! And you are right, now that I re-read my post, I almost sounded like condensation was to be expected or something. What I should have said is that no window salesman can guar...

Novice brings up a good point... maybe companies could start offering custom colors on their spacers. I'd want a red racing stripe on mine! Or maybe some flames.

Only other colors I know of are aluminum colored spacers (shiny) and grey (superspacer and maybe Intercept?).

I agree. This happened to us recently... ordered grids, got windows with no grids. Installed the windows as scheduled- Swapping out the sashes was quick and easy once they arrived.
