Weatherstrip for Schuco casement windows

A few of our Schuco casements leak around the top strip of weatherstrip. It looks like its taken a pretty good "set" to the closed shaped, and now that we've started opening and closing the windows for the season it no longer seals to the frame just enough that it will catch water cascadin...

Re: Alarm contacts on Schuco sliders....

I would prefer wired, as I think they are more reliable. However if I had to come from the top of the window it would be a lot harder to fish the wires through, I was assuming I could use the bottom track somehow and just drop them down into the basement ceiling. If that is not the case, then I woul...

Alarm contacts on Schuco sliders....

I asked this a long time ago, then decided an alarm wasnt necessary.......but now back to thinking about installing one. My house is a mix of casements and sliders, all Schuco. I figured Id ask here if anyone has any suggestions on where to put the contacts for both the sliders and the casements. Fu...

Wooden stop split, leading to water infiltration?

Recently noticed a musty/mildewy smell in our living room. Its happened before, a window high up on a stairway had a rotted exterior stop, led to water (and carpenter ant!) infiltration. Fixed the carpenter ant problem, fixed the wet/rotted sheathing, had the window and stops replaced. Same issue ag...

Re: Windows built backwards...useable?

Quick update:

Installer ordered new windows and the window co gave him a discount (small, but something) and expedited the new windows. They were installed yesterday and everyone is happy. He will definitely be getting recommendations from me from now on.

Re: Windows built backwards...useable?

Judging from all of the window quotes Ive gotten (10 for the original set of windows + 3 for these geometrics), not one quote was measured outside. I actually just thought all measurements were assumed to be INSIDE, but apparently its not standard. Dont have any windows left to replace, but Ill keep...

Re: Windows built backwards...useable?

Yeah, its really weird in an age where EVERYTHING involves computers that something like this happens. In this case, it was just fine print the orderer/installer didnt notice compounded with the fact that they are fixed pane (i.e. no hardware to show an oops), geometric shape (i.e. wont work flipped...

Re: Windows built backwards...useable?

Just think how many referrals you'll give if he corrects this ASAP If needed fight fire with fire you deserve correct job. I hope to one day soon have manufacturers software with me on laptop and order the job at homeowners kitchen table. What brand are these? Just talked to him and told him I dont...

Re: Windows built backwards...useable?

I left a VM for the installer on this one, told him I want the windows corrected (after reading posts about the questions of weatherproof, etc) The window company got back to him and said the LowE wont be affected, but they suggested adding a bead of caulk around the outside of the window (where the...

Re: Windows built backwards...useable?

Installing LowE on the "wrong" surface will have an affect on energy performance - but not so much that it will cause any physical problems with the windows (breakage, overheating, leaking, etc). How much of an energy performance hit? If its not going to cause physical issues I wonder if ...

Windows built backwards...useable?

Had 2 geometric shaped (READ: will only work one way!) windows ordered. They came in and the installer was here installing them when we noticed they were built backwards........the sloped sills ended up on the *inside* of the house. The windows got installed, just so we didnt have holes in the house...

Re: Custom shapes?

First quote: 2 Jeld-Wen windows (not exactly sure which line, except that they are fixed-panes), 3/4" gap, dual pane, 1 Low-E coat: $800.00 installed including interior trim. Trying to get a quote on the upgraded Low-E coating (LoE3-366).....anyone think the upgrade is worth it? I see the marke...

Re: Custom shapes?

is this something I can measure and order myself?

I dont see any way to find Simonton "dealer or installers", but there are a bunch of "where to buy" places near me. Id still prefer to go thru an installer, as I dont feel like installing it myself :)

Custom shapes?

Any idea which window companies (certaineed, etc) make custom shape vinyl windows? I have 2 windows that are considered "geometric".......basically one side is a normal bottom to top, but the other is angled (dont know the exact angle, but its pretty extreme). They are fixed panes, so that...
