Re: Starmark Window/Insert Installation Question
even though the gap is small, the full perimeter foam wrap that comes with the window can be somewhat compressed. so in this case the foam wrap is fine. in fact, thats what the foam wrap is for.

Re: Starmark Window/Insert Installation Question
yes, if the measurement made for a tight fit then just caulking is fine. if there is a larger gap, then foam insulation would be used.
if the gap is too narrow, foam insulation will not stay in, it has no where to settle.

Re: Please HELP.. Need windows installation quesstion
i would like to know that as well. there is no way to tell if they used foam unless you actually saw them do the install. so why would wait until they were finished to bring it up?
agree, the caulking job is a mess.

universal has a lock on polaris; they have some sort of agreement. they chose to offer the thermal opposed to ultra. kind of similar to castle and soft lite.

Re: New windows for a Philadelphia rowhouse
universal direct uses the polaris thermal weld with super spacer. thermal weld is ok i guess but not as good as the polaris ultra weld which is a pretty solid window. i would strongly recommend looking at the Okna 800 deluxe as well. it has a very authentic look to it and its solid from top to bottom.

Re: Windows in North Jersey
living in nj, i would suggest getting a window with a higher solar heat gain.( not too high) i know Okna, Gorell, and soft lite all offer double pane windows with shgc of between .25 and .30 . Okna uses guardian glass whereas both gorell and soft lite utilize ppg. i am not a fan of solarban 70 by pp...

Re: Bryn Mawr Warranty for 1995 Installations
This is one of the many reasons we never recommend certainteed windows. The new certainteed windows will be found under the name MI Windows which also make Xact and Cutting Edge; all low quality.
That said, you should be covered under your warranty.

Re: Allside v United v Crystal Series
Those are all lower end brands and not only do they look cheap but they do not perform well at all, especially over time.
Okna , gorell, sunrise, and soft lite are the higher quality brands that most pro's recommend. All of these brands are designed very well and very energy efficient.

That said, the nee Vytex Fortis seems like a very solid window and to me, it's a better choice than simonton.

Re: Gorell vs Silverline Impact Windows
Silver line make a low grade window . Not only do they look chep but they are one of the most poorly designed I have seen along with pella vinyl windows and Xact . These are typical " builders grade" windows that are sold to anyone looking for something cheap and ignoring quality. Gorell o...

That's the best price I've ever seen for the 500 series. The windows were probably very small and the most simplistic install. Windows on Washington does one heck of an install though. Talk about a grand slam...

Re: Simonton Windows for Southeastern Pennsylvania
No professional installer worth his salt will install a window that cheaply. I find t extremely hard to believe. Also, what you consider a good install and what actually is a good install are probably two different things.as far as you being savvy , I doubt it.
