Yes I agree, and Anlin when they Manufactured them on the West Coast. Anlin modeled their Business to Simonton, quite the compliment if you ask me.

Re: How to choose an installer? And brand questions.

You might want to look at the CertainTeed Bryn Mawr line of replacement windows. They really do provide many standard features which are options on almost every other make of window. Their warranty exceeds almost all others as well and they are usually quite reasonably priced. They have made huge s...

Re: How to choose an installer? And brand questions.

windowsage what happened to the warranty of certainteed owners when viwinco was no longer a fabricator? Irrelevant now really. Metal Industries is a huge company and one of the top ten manufacturers of vinyl windows in the USA. They are not going anywhere and their lifetime warranty on glass breaka...

Re: Hello, Is this a decent price?

I would also suggest getting more quotes $1775.00 an opening seems extremely high. Out on the West Coast we see prices $400.00 to $800.00 an opening with some rare higher pricing on very large second story windows and we have much bigger windows that are Installed out here.

Re: Replacement windows Southern CA coastline

The only way you are going to reduce traffic noise is to install windows with laminated glass. Do not get talked into triple pane glass to make much difference. Simonton, Amerimax, Anlin and Milgard are decent brands to look at in California. You will want a window with glass that will reduce the s...

3/4" O.A. gives you the optimum, with very little gain going 7/8" O.A. so I would also agree

On the Installation side, out here on the West Coast I would suggest looking for AAMA Certified Installers ( American Architectural Manufacturers Association ). Manufactures out here provide the classes with Certified Instructors. You can visit the AAMA site to see the proper Installation recommende...

I would also tend to believe it is your contractor. I have never dealt with Simonton, however I know they run a Better than average Service Dept.

No I don't work for them, however the Company I work for modeled our business from theirs. A compliment to Simonton you might say!

Why fight over it? Just tell them to cancel the order and then move on to another company. I'm sure you don't really want to do business with someone who doesn't know what the codes are. Was this the lowest bid and now you are finding out why" Did any of the other companies you got estimates f...

Re: New lead paint laws starting in april of 2010

I have a question, how does this effect the DIY guys out there trying to save a couple of bucks, will they be faced with the same issues as the contractors and if so who will be enforcing it? Most DIY guys don't bother with pulling permits unless someone catches them.

Re: Squeaky block and tackle channel balance

I have 2 year old vinyl double hung windows. It has the block and tackle channel balance system and some are making a squeaking noise when raised or lowered. I removed the channel balance from one side and noticed the squeaking is coming from the pulleys. I put a drop of oil on each pulley axel, bu...
