Re: Simonton 5500 Casement
It just seems like you chose the guy based on cost...because "he is the cheapest" . Every time is see someone with a problem, it's always the guy who came in cheap. 6k is a lot of a difference. You have odds similar to Vegas choosing a contractor based on cost. I guess that I am just shoc...

Simonton 5500 Casement
Well, I think I have pretty much decided on the Simonton 5500 casement window to replace my horrible Built-Best wooden casements. I think that I'm getting a pretty good price but will leave it up to the forum experts to render their decision. ORDER DETAIL: Replace existing 18 opening with similar st...

Vinylmax Sherwood
Has anyone heard of the Vinylmax Sherwood window and if so, any opinions on its quality? It is supposedly a viny exterior/wood interior hybrid. I thought I had my window choice narrowed down to the Simonton 5500 vs the Sunrise casement but there is a $6000 difference between the two quotes. I didn't...

Re: Installation-Winteq Foam vs Fiberglass Batt
Thanks for all of the replies. The installer who wants to use fiberglass has additionally said that using foam will void a majority of the warranties on vinyl replacement windows because it can expand and shift the postion of the window causing problems with opening and closing. Ever heard of that e...

Installation-Winteq Foam vs Fiberglass Batt
I have two different installers wanting to to use two different types of insulation around windows during installation. One uses something called Winteq Foam while the other says he uses a fiberglass batt insulation. If it makes a difference, the foam would be on Simonton 5500 casements and the fibe...

Simonton 5500 vs Gorell 3000 casement
I've received two very different quotes for installation of these windows and wondered if anyone would offer an opinion. First I have a quote for Simonton 5500 casements as follows: ORDER DETAIL: Replace existing 18 opening with similar style windows: 6 single casements, 11 double casements, 3 tripl...

Re: Vinyl Replacement Windows in Indiana
Thanks to both of you for your replies! I met with a Gorell installer today and have an appointment with the Sunrise rep next week. Both are recommending a full frame installation on the windows to avoid a loss of visible glass. I asked my Simonton rep about it and he said "A full frame replace...

Vinyl Replacement Windows in Indiana
Hi! We're looking to replace all of the wood casement windows in our house with vinyl casements. The choices in vinyl windows are overwhelming to say the least. From reading through the forum there seems to be a lot of good advice out there. That being said, I've tried to look for window manufacture...
