Re: Windows Installed Correctly

Is the "installer" finished with his part of the work? Did your contract specify that you would complete the finish work? Were these custom sized windows? It could be that stock size windows that were as close to the opening sizes were used. I do like that shims were used on the corners an...

Re: Supporting a large bow window in wall with cathedral ceiling

Most manufacturers require one or the other for warranty purposes. What is the wall thickness, depth of the seatboard, and projection of the unit beyond the outside wall? All of those factors should be considered in determining how much support would be needed. I would use knee bracing and allow for...

Re: Bryn Mawr Warranty for 1995 Installations

Back in 1995, Certainteed windows were manufactured by licensed fabricators who bought the lineals, along with the right to fabricate a "Certainteed" product. The warranty that you have covers only the frame and sash components produced by Certainteed. The insulated glass units were the re...

Re: competent window installer in vabeach

9 over 9 in a 32 x 62 DH is awfully busy in my opinion. You may want to look at some of your neighbors windows to see what grid pattern appeals to you most in a like size window.

Re: Quote on Alside Ultramaxx vs NT window

No, not saying that they shouldn't be opened. But leaving them opened for that length of time, the weight of the glass and heat will cause them to sag or bow. I have also seen casements opened to a full 90 degrees and a strong wind catch them and rip them completely off the hinges and someone wonder...

Re: Quote on Alside Ultramaxx vs NT window

An engineering study does not need to be done to determine that if any vinyl casement window is left open for that lenghth of time during the summer months the vent will bow and sag. They are not designed to be used in that manner. Four windows that were not left open, as you state, open and close p...

Re: Norandex windows TX - Simonton Prism vs View Point 3000

I may be wrong, but you should be using the warranty ID numbers which would correspond to information in the Simonton database not Norandex. Even still, if someone has been out to take measurements, the replacement glass should be able to be made exactly to those dimensions.

Re: Is it a big mistake to replace only a few windows at once?

I would not advise to replace one window just to "test drive" the product or company doing the installation. Replacing several windows at a time due to budget or need is a different story.

Re: Window Manufacturing Quality Between Companies

Overall design and tighter tolerances typically lead to better performance numbers. Lower U-values, air infiltration, etc. Those numbers will tell more about which windows and manufacturers use better manufacturing processes and quality control in my opinion.

Check out his references, see if he will give you some additional references from when he was in business before. Take a look at the finished jobs and the quality of workmanship. If you are satisfied and comfortable that he will do a good job for you then you got a good deal. Situations change and h...

Re: Milgard Styleline vinyl windows with visible screws

You should be able to buy caps at a hardware store or one of the big box stores. Look for a 2 peice cap, a snap ring that the screw fits through, and the cap cover that fits over the screw head. These will require you to remove the screw. The other option would be to just use the cap and a little cl...
