Re: Replacement Windows and Installation: Question & Opinion

You can certainly get the better window which is the Potomac. The Georgetown is a budget window. Why would you want a budget window if this is your primary home and not a rental? Increasing the depth is not an issue.

Re: Simonton vs. Sunrise

Hi syakoban I always prefer a window with reinforcement. As i said, the most important number is air infiltration. I like to see an air infiltration rating .05 or lower and total Ufactor of .28 or lower. Most of the pro’s on this board really try and push good air infiltration ratings. A good Ufacto...

Re: Simonton vs. Sunrise

In my opinion, simonton do not make a very good window. For one, its ugly and bulky. Two, it has a high air infiltration rating. Okna and sunrise are MUCH better windows in terms of looks, design, and energy efficiency. DP rating is the strength of the window and each window gets rated for that. The...

Re: Do I need full-frame replacement, and how do I vet the quote?

Having 2 or 3 rotted sills should not be the sole reason to go with a full frame install, thats an easy fix. I only recommend a full frame/ new construction install if there is uniquitous wood rot. There a a few other situations but for the most part a standard replacement with spray foam insulation...

You cannot go wrong with either. The new cardinal spacer is very solid.

Re: Finding a Soft-lite dealer in central Ohio

I certainly wouldnt let a payment dispute between angies list and that particular window company be a reason for you not to consider them. That should have nothing to do with the integrity of the company.

Re: Am I Going Insane?

Whenever i see a company come in with an outrageously high price and then magically reduce the price by thousands, the first thing that comes to mind is they have connections to the federal reserve. Fyi, no window company has connections to the federal reserve.

Re: Am I Going Insane?

Personally, we warranty our installs much longer than a year but in my experience, anything “workmanship related” will manifest intelf much sooner than later. Example, if a contractor didnt properly seal and insulate a window, the customer would more than likely notice a draft as soon as the cold we...

Re: Window installation warranty question

To be honest, if an install related issue does occur, it would usually be within a year. It would be very rare for an issue to happen after a year. “Acts of god” are usually not covered under the workmanship umbrella and issues such as those can occur at anytime and are rarely related to the quality...

Re: Replacement Windows- Please Help! Sunrise vs. MI

Its not even close, Sunrise is so much better. MI Windows are garbage in my opinion. Window world cater to those who are only concerned with price and not quality. If you dont mind having a flimsy , cheap looking window in your home, i suppose window world is fine.

Re: Window quote opinions

Staying in your home 8-10 years is a rather long time. The simonton assure is their lower end offering and its flimsy. My feeling is that too many homeowners hyper focus on energy savings alone and there is much more to it; aesthetics and the hard to quantify comfort factor come to mind. Aesthetics ...

Re: Quote validation - Okna Windows

Thats good pricing for the 800 deluxe. It was very nice of the andersen salesman to quote you a price and then magically lower it by $10,000. Im sure he could justify the discount with the utmost honesty.

Re: Large picture window glass flex

I agree. You can always get some deflection ( flex) but not a 1/2”. I would relax, not so sure thats an issue. As my buddy said above, a 1/4” would even be a lot.

Re: Casement window questions

You can certainly go into the existing opening. As far as egress, you are “grandfathered in”, meaning if they werent egress before, they dont need to be egress now. If you were creating a new opening, the egress could then apply. Thats how it is in new jersey and i am somewhat sure its like that in ...
