Re: Window Quote Help

you do NOT want a pocket sill. You DO want a foam filled chamber.
Being that you are in Ohio, you dont want the shgc too low. .26 - .30 is good in your region. Do not get triple silver, you simply dont need it unless you lived in Arizona or Texas.

Re: Simonton, Ply Gem or Alside

Interior install is fine. No issues with that. As for capping, it doesnt actually seal the window, it just eliminates the need to paint and maintain the exterior window trim.

Re: Install temperature for Windows

Far too many homeowners focus on temperature for the install when in reality, you can install in zero degree weather although i would not want my installers doing that because im a nice guy.lol Most companies focus on one room at a time and keep doors closed which minimizes any discomfort on the par...

Re: ProVia, OKNA, Simonton, or Reliabilt

Okna and provia are best by a large margin. Reliabilt is way at the bottom.

Re: Simonton, Ply Gem or Alside

The Okna 600 will have a better air infiltration rating than the Endure and a better ( slightly) Ufactor.

Re: Simonton, Ply Gem or Alside

Deluxe is doubl pane- .26 ufactor.. one thing that makes absolutely no sense to me is how the 500 and 600 would have the same structural rating of 50. If the 600 has structural reinforcement as well as 2 additional structural interlocks and the 500 does not, how in the world could the 600 not be at ...

Re: Simonton, Ply Gem or Alside

The handle on the 600 is very appealing to most. Same goes for the 800. As for reinforcement, it adds structural integrity to the window. The okna 600 also has an interlocking sill and interlocking header as well. The 800 also has these feautures. These upgrades are there for a reason and most high ...

Re: Simonton, Ply Gem or Alside

Not requiring any money down is extremely rare and i dont know of anyone who would ever think of doing that. I would never do that under any circumstance. Every company i know require 35-50% down. Just as i would never recommend going with a company because they have the lowest price, i would also n...

Re: Alside, Joyce, Soft-Lite, or Provia Windows

When you say “ new windows”, do you mean new construction windows or actually creating a new opening with a structural header?
I havent heard Joyce mentioned in a while, its a decent window. At least their upper line is. I also like the soft lite.

Re: Advanced Window Corp reviews

Advanced Window is just a basic window with average performance numbers. They are based in chicago as you said. Its not a brand i would offer and it certainly doesnt come close to the better performing vinyl windows such as soft lite, Okna , Sunrise, Kensington. The company you are referring to who ...

Re: ALCO Windows Philadelphia

If you look at their corner cut on the website , they appear to utilize a pocket sill which is not desirable. They also dont use foam to insulate the frame or sash. Seems very generic with an outdated sill design.

Re: Simonton, Ply Gem or Alside

I agree with everything Homesealed said especially with regards to simonton being bulky and outdated. As far as the essentials, that is the budget line of sunrise and not something anyone would recommend here. There is a reason its called a “ budget line” and its not because its slightly below the o...

Re: Simonton, Ply Gem or Alside

30% down is the very low end, most require more as a down payment due to the windows being custom sized to your openings as well as grids patterns ect...i dont know any company that doesnt require 35-50% down.

Re: Simonton, Ply Gem or Alside

10 quotes ! Am i reading that correctly? Out if those 10 quotes you narrowed it down to simonton, plygem, and alside? Out of all those quotes you didnt see any of the more quality oriented window brands, soft lite, okna, sunrise, or kensington? Are you just basing your choice on cheapness? Is this a...

Re: Living room remodel - Builder spec'd Visions 3500

I can see why you have issues as vision windows are garbage. I am not big on wood windows and pella fiberglass is no better than what you currently have; their air infiltration rating is horrible and its a flimsy window. You mention Okna. Okna windows are one of the most air tight windows in the ind...
