What to look for when I kick the tires?

Since my post a few days ago I have decided against the Alside Excalibur, and was leaning towards the softlite Imperial. Found a dealer here in NoVa who carries Softlite, Shuco, and Simonton, so I'm going to his shop tomorrow to see full sizes of all three, which I hope will be better than one tiny ...

Sorry - I wasn't clear. The widths on the double-hungs range from 24 to 36. The heights range from 50 to 74. Don't have any double-hungs that are over 36" wide.

And are you recommending checking the u values because they don't sound right for the windows?
