Re: Vinyl Window repair....cheaper alternatives to Swisco?

Mathew... Like yourself I talso had reservations about spreading the jamb using the Swisco Jamb Spreader but my concerns were unfounded. FYI, all my vinyl windows were installed in 1986 and like many other vinyl window owners pivot bars, pivot shoes, and the ocassional spiral balance needed repair/r...

Re: Vinyl Window repair....cheaper alternatives to Swisco?

Not wishing to start any heated debate but if removing a section of the jamb ...in this case making a cutout in a very stout section of vinyl frame was approved why haven't all vinyl window manufacturers notched (making cutouts) each and every manufacturered vinyl window before selling them to the p...

Re: Vinyl Window repair....cheaper alternatives to Swisco?

DansWindow....tested your recommendation/idea using a heatgun and after making a good effort decided I will purchase another set of Swisco jamb spreaders. I a not disparaging your suggestion however the effort expended using the heat gun method took over 30 minutes trial and error....Swisco jam spre...

Tried heatgun --> NG

DansWindow, Read your suggestion which was mentioned on other forums however it's not viable for me. Biggest issue is as you heat up an area you still have to find a tool to actually spread the jamb sufficiently wide enough to remove the broken shoe. Exacerbating matters is the fact you also have to...

Vinyl Window repair....cheaper alternatives to Swisco?

I had the great misfortune lending out my very expensive pair of Swisco Vinyl Window jamb spreaders to what I thought was a intelligent homeowner in our neighborhood. Had I known he intended to replace his broken window pivot shoes on aluminum windows I would have refrained from doing so. Long story...

Re: Window replacements in Bronx, NYC

jevatelo, Some of the vinyl windows presently being sold out there is absolute junk. There's a mfr of vinyl windows in the College Point, Queens area growing by leaps and bounds however I am not too thrilled with the quality of their windows.....vinyl extrusions are extremely thin which I believe is...

Success....elusive window pivot shoes found

In the interest of giving back to this forum I wanted to say I not only found a fix but also found another vinyl window repair parts supplier which matched up my 30 year old vinyl window pivot shoes. My problematic bowed window was fixed by using a pair of Swisco #15-067 pivot shoes which were impro...

Re: where to purchase rplmt vinyl pivot shoes & other parts?

Homesealed....Yes, I could agree with you however house has over 20 windows and only 2 of these windows appear to be bowed. More importantly the remaining windows are still weather resistant and appear in pristine condition. Besides, if I were to convince wife into just replacing these two problemat...

Re: where to purchase rplmt vinyl pivot shoes & other parts?

No adjusters whatsoever! Besides...the opening has two (2) double hung windows mated by a huge "H-channel" vinyl column if I remember going back when they were originally installed. Only other brainstorm I can think of was to purchase a pair of larger pivot rods, cut them down such that th...

where to purchase rplmt vinyl pivot shoes & other parts?

Finally stumbled upon this vinyl window forum and this looks like a site where many of the window contractors lurk/post and might be able to offer help. Our Thermo-Air vinyl windows were installed in 1986 (contractor and mfr long gone and out of business) and while these windows have served wife and...
