Back in 1998 we purchased a lot of Hilti equipment, quite expensive. We were driven by trade magazine articles and thought we'd better get ready for the future. The installers had a lot of trouble and said it was just too messy and we pretty much threw away $300.00 worth of equipment and went back ...

R-30 Insulation cramed into the wall cavity translates to practically zero. Visit the sister site to this one and look up post from a fenestration expert called FenEx and you'll see why cramming in fiberglass is useless. Low expanding foam does by far the best job. It fills the cavity and helps pre...

If your getting ice on your windows replace them. They are shot. The door might be able to be fixed, but they are not that expensive and it's a big leaker. I'd replace it. Firstly, thanks for your help. So, lets say, I don't have a lot of money. (Which I don't.) I can't afford both right now. I hav...

that is kind of like being between a rock and a hard place. Without some sort of energy audit, it would difficult to tell where the money was going out of the home. A good carpenter could probably resquare that door and fix that problem. The glass in your windows not able to be fixed...only replace...

Thanks for the reply.

It's not just condensation. The windows sometimes have like 1/16 inch of ice on them. They seem pretty airtight, but I'm sure there not energy efficient.

Not if you have a quality energy efficient window put in.

Storms would be unnecessary then.

Sounds like a manufacturing problem. Not a problem with the company you went with.

Give their service department a call and they should fix things for you.

How many windows are there? Think about a $200 window, how much quality are you getting. It also depends, how long are you going to live in the house, and even if you are just fixing it to sell it......do you want to sell the home with a window you know is truly inferior to an unsuspecting new home ...

You might want to check with the Better Business Burea and see what it says about any companies you may be interested in. It is a consumer report group that will tell you how many complaints the companies may have. Obviously if a company has a lot of complaints, that's not good. A company with fewer...

We have installed at least one of these in MN, that I know of. They are really heavy. The ones that were installed were the double French Outswing door. Very strong. The fact that they outswing to the exterior is a great benefit. Versus many that swing inside. They should have similar U-Values as th...
