Quaker Windows

Has anyone heard of or used Quaker windows? A local company wants to sell these windows to me. Spec wise the U value is OK. The SHGC is a little low. The price is decent. I am not sure about the quality and I am still trying to find the AI numbers.

Re: Starmark

The Starmark is a great choice, especially if you need a wood look as they are stainable. They have a great option on triple pane too. The triple pane option with the argon package (XR11) is priced nicely and you can get a .17 U-Factor without having to buy the more expensive krypton gas option. Th...

Re: Starmark

Did they provide you a brochure? Most of those ratings are listed in the brochure... It is an excellent product, but you might want to contact that company and ask to speak with someone who is better informed... Or find a different vendor for the product. All I got from them was a brochure saying w...

Re: Starmark

Yes, starmark is made by okna but has a separate website. What questions do you have? Any and all window specs ranging from AI to VT, SHGC, U-factor. The sales person didn't have any of that. Makes me question the company doing the install a little, but I just don't know what I am getting if I buy ...

Starmark

I was looking at Okna windows and when I asked for a local rep I was put in contact with a local company. They came out to show their windows today and were offering Starmark windows. On the Okna website I see their 400, 500, and 800 series windows. I searched and found Starmark but their website wa...

Re: Help Comparing Quotes

Happy triple pane buyer chiming in. I live just outside Chicago and today is a balmy 7 degrees with lots of wind. We installed tp in our home in August of this year, so this winter has been a good test for the tp's. We installed DP's in our basement. The DPs are running around 9 degrees colder than...

Windows on Washington wrote:What glass options were quoted in each?

Given your climate, I cannot foresee a reason to go with anything but triple pane.

I know I am hijacking this thread, but what brands would you recommend for a triple pane in West Central Michigan?

Re: Replacing Cheap Vinyl Windows

I think that the Sunrise is the class of the bunch (although my knowledge of Intus and Klearwall is limited--- I have heard good things however), but for a fixed unit, the Simonton and Plygem options would not be bad at all. You are spot on when you mentioned that the differences become far more pr...

Re: Replacing Cheap Vinyl Windows

So I have gotten in several quotes for my first 4 fixed windows to be replaced and can I say wow, what a price spread for just the windows. These numbers do not include installation. There are 3 irregular shaped windows and one rectangle in this mix. Simonton 5500 - $1800 Intus uPVC - $3800 Sunrise ...

Re: Replacing Cheap Vinyl Windows

I agree with all of the above... Given that you are complaining about the draftiness, I would definitely pay close attention to the air infiltration rating of whatever product you are considering. That Simonton that you saw is a nice piece, but not elite in that regard. As Anthony gave one example ...

Re: Replacing Cheap Vinyl Windows

Your situation is very common ; home owners purchase cheap windows and then they want to tear them out in a year and install something of a much higher quality. You are on the right track by doing your research. Depending on where you are located will determine which brands are available in your ar...

Replacing Cheap Vinyl Windows

I am looking to replace the cheapest vinyl windows I have ever seen installed. They are drafty and poorly insulated and the sliders leak water at the overlap point of the fixed and sliding parts. The first person I had out suggested a Simonton 5500 series window. I am also interested in something li...
