Re: Recommended Installers/dealers in Rockford Illinois?

You are correct...unfortunately Dave (Windows4U) does not cover Rockford (my hometown). However his website says that he does have a contractor that can help you. I would strongly (pun not intended) suggest calling Dave and see if the contractor is available to help.

Re: Full Frame Replacement or Insert Installation?

Rita - as a non pro of windows - I can truly relate to your agony of the Sunrise " fiasco" of their convoluted marketing structure. I was there at one time myself. You are considering ONE of the better windows produced by Sunrise - the Vanguard. The unfortunate part is, the contractor that sells the...

Re: Replacement vinyl sliding patio door

Not a window contractor myself, but do yourself a HUGE favor and take the advice of both masterext and Delaware Mike and stay away from any of the big box stores products. There are so many better options that will provide you with a lasting piece of mind. You may want to look at OKNA or Sunrise.......

Re: Seeking advise for mid range windows selection in North East

You are being misinformed, sounds like something renewal would say. Higher grade vinyl will expand less than a home depot type vinyl. The fact that the 3 vinyl brands i listed have structural numbers that are almost twice of a wood window speaks volumes. Why would the vinyl from home depot vinyl wi...

Re: Seeking advise for mid range windows selection in North East

Yes vinyl does expand and contract (slight) with temperature changes, no more than a wood window does (slight) with changes in humidity Pella would be my very last choice in windows in the industry. I have the Original Pella ( which has now been replaced by the extremely low end Proline ) window in ...

Re: Seeking advise for mid range windows selection in North East

What type (wood, fiberglass, vinyl) of windows have you received quotes from Pella, Marvin and Andersen folks?

Just need to be clear so you are comparing apples to apples in terms of price.

Yes, you have named a few of the better mfr's of the vinyl world - Okna, Sunrise and Soft-Lite.

Re: Sunrise Options

No ....the base Sunrise (not Essentials) does not come with reinforcement, you would have to upgrade to the Vanguard or Restoration series to get that. In terms of the foam filled sash and frames, here is a link that will illustrate. http://www.sunrisewindows.com/energy-efficiency/ If I am reading W...

Re: Window Treatments After Installation of Replacement Windows

Without seeing any images....it sounds that you may have had "inside mounts" for your window treatments, prior to replacement. You may be forced to go to an "outside mount" to hang treatments. The good thing, in most cases, you are not limited to shades. You can use mini blinds, wood blinds, etc.

Re: Reliabilt Windows

Bucky - I did take a look at the video regarding the heat resistance that the windows offer. Where the company falls short is posting the other energy ratings that go along with windows. They MAY do a great job of keeping the heat out of one's home, but what about air infiltration, design pressure, ...

Re: Reliabilt Windows

STOP!! Don't drink the Kool-Aid....Consumer Report Kool-Aid that is. Consumer Reports is not the end all be all. The windows they have tested - past and present - are only the tip of the iceberg. Consumer Reports has A LOT of testing to do in order to have a CONCLUSIVE report. Lots of windows so lit...

You are correct, it is a solid window. The only downside - it has a pocket sill, as opposed to a sloped sill.

Re: Deployed Marine Requests A Little Help

Thank you for serving this great country! Milgard is a pretty decent window, however I , personally, am not a fan of any window that the big box stores sell, in this case Reliabilt. The old adage - you get what you pay for - really holds true in the window industry. You may want to check out Anlin w...
