Caulk Bubbling on new vinyl window install (pics)...
About a year ago I installed about 18 Seaway vinyl replacement windows. I removed the old storm windows, and used a piece of L-shaped matching flashing to cover the blind stop and then caulked between the old wrapping to the new piece and then, naturally, from the blind stop to the window. I used a ...

Install sill adapter before window install or after?
Looking to install my Seaway replacment windows which come with a sill adapter that snaps into a channel in the bottom of the window (it is flat and just terminates where it hits the existing sill-it is not in an L shape like others i have seen). Ive seen it done two ways , install the sill adapter ...

Re: Looking at Mid-Grade Vinyl Insert Windows....Plygem?
+1. ... The only thing I'd add, is that I wouldn't be too concerned about a painted exterior. Wood windows, metal windows, the trim around the windows, etc all have painted exterior surfaces. Vinyl color coatings are really no different, have come a long way, and are very durable. I would not hesit...

Re: Looking at Mid-Grade Vinyl Insert Windows....Plygem?
Well the one distributor in my area(upstate ny) for sunrise will not sell to me without an install. I got a quote for Seaway Encore Windows (they come coextruded)and they are identical in price to the Plygem premiums if I go with the intercept spacer. If I upgrade to the super spacer it is an additi...

Re: Looking at Mid-Grade Vinyl Insert Windows....Plygem?
Of the windows commonly recommended on here (okna, sunrise, prolite), do any offer a coextruded version that allows a beige exterior with white interior? Seems that is my big limiting factor as I don't wamy a painted surface on one side

Re: DIY Install Questions (Pictures)
Thanks for the reply. So what is the normal measure to undersize the window from the rough opening? Ive seen 1/4 inch and other manufacturers say 3/8th. I measured my openings and the height comes in like a 1/16 of an inch under 53 3/4th (i assume it is just under because of the thickness of the alu...

Re: Looking at Mid-Grade Vinyl Insert Windows....Plygem?
Has anyone ever heard of Encore windows from Seaway? Just found out a neighbor sells them. Their performance numbers seem great (they advertise air infiltration of .01 and even their lowest line has .26 u factor)

Re: Looking at Mid-Grade Vinyl Insert Windows....Plygem?
Got a couple quotes and the Plygem Premiums seem to be pretty comparable price wise to the Simonton 5500s. Looking at about $280-290 for a 36x54 (with grills in upper sash) and $330-350 for 36x65 (these are 60/40 sash models which I guess adds a chunk). Cost is for window only. Both windows have the...

DIY Install Questions (Pictures)
I've done a bunch of windows on my past houses (but the cheaper Home Depot variety) but have a couple questions relative to installing windows on my new house. I will be installed either PlyGem Pro/Premium or Simonton 5500s. 1. My one window is a casement window and it appears to have 4 different &q...

Looking at Mid-Grade Vinyl Insert Windows....Plygem?
First post! I live in western NY in a 30 year old home with terrible single pane windows (glazing is cracking off everywhere) with triple trac storms. When it gets in the single digits I can't even see out the windows they get so covered in condensation. I'm going to be replacing the windows myself ...
