Re: Harvey Tribute v. Sunrise Restorations

I don't know of any Pro's that really advocate that window on this board, but I could be wrong. I'm a dealer for T.I. and I'm really impressed with their products. Their sliding door is the best in the industry imo. And their 935 and Park Avenue lines are good quality products. I think it's difficu...

Re: Simonton 6500 from HD and Simonton 5500

Those prices seem pretty reasonable for the products offered. The superspacer is superior to the intercept, due to it being a foam spacer, therefore being less of a conductor than the steel found in the intercept. I was thinking window world had exclusivity on the excalibur in most areas, it's Alsid...

Re: Window World 4000, Wincore 5500 or Champion

The Comfortwold 4000 is an Alside Excalibur, it's their entry level window and in 10 yrs. you could be right back in the position where you are now with your Thermalgards. Champions windows are overpriced in my opinion...it's a premium price for a mid-grade window. I'm not familiar with the other pr...

Crownline They look like a descent window, they offer a new construction-style window w nailing flange which most people on this board would recommend you go with, because of the ease to seal the unit. This window will leave you needing to build extension jambs out from the new window, flush with yo...

Crownline Start off with Lowe's and Home Depot. Lowe's has a Pella Thermastar that you could do in that size w argon and low e for probably around $200. Alot of people talk trash on this window, but it's a sturdy window, and would be a huge improvement over the single pane aluminum windows you proba...

David This is not really a standard step. I have filled them several times and I think it definately needs to be done, but it is time consuming, which brings another charge. The exterior of your wood windows are probably cased out with a 1" x 5", both sides of your opening-the 1"x 5&q...

I have installed only one brand of windows with the heat mirror film and have seen no problems whatsoever. Although most of the jobs have only been in a few years, I have not heard any complaints or problems. Previous customers houses I've returned to still look like day one. But if a glasspack is t...

Question for administrator

There was a post I responded to Sun. evening, by Thermotwinwindows which asked experts to comment on different spacer systems. I was curious as to what happened to this thread, and why it was removed?

Handyman, From his descrition It sounded like his exterior was cased out with a true 1"x5". i was just saying in a triple opening the mull boards would also be a 1 x 5. He could remove these which need to be insulated behind anyways. And cap the mull with the board off. thus recessing the ...

To decrease the width, between the windows, have the installer remove the capping then he can remove the mull boards, which i do on about every job...behind that space will need to be insulated with normal R-11 or R-13, then have him cap that space with the board off. This will give the mulls a rece...

In looking for a good install there are things you can see and things you can't. Look at the windows on the exterior, there will be vinyl coated aluminum capping covering the exterior moulding around the window, make sure it has a clean, neat look to it and that no wood is left exposed. Also look at...

Window World is a growing company, I think they have close to 120 franchises nationwide. Their comfortworld windows are made by alside. The 4000 series is an alside excalibur window and their 6000 series is an alside ultramaxx, these are descent windows in the 250- 300 range. If you're budget can af...

Alright BayCity I've been doing some more research and I found a site that describes in detail the type install with the Z bar flange you were discussing, I haven't heard of this and it seems like a really good method, I wonder when this idea was implemented? It also shows 2 other methods a new cons...

I can't argue with AAMA standards if that's what it states should be done. I'm sure I have 7-8 yr. old windows out there done by the method I previously described and yet no problems, if the caulk is maintained every few years, there will be no problems. You talk of a retrofit window (with a z-bar f...

I'm Going to have to agree with handyman, on 90% of aluminum windows you're talking a frame depth of max 1 3/8 - 1 1/2", which sits on the exterior of the opening. Baycity win. are you saying to sit the window on that frame and shim with a block underneath. You would have to cut back probably 2...
