Re: Grid count reduction for less obstructed view?

I opted to pop off the Narrowline grids (interior side, outside the glass) and simulate the reduced grid patterns using standard masking tape. It was actually fairly effective as I had 3/4" tape and the Okna GBGs are 11/16". I'm not sure how much viewable glass loss we'll see with the repl...

Re: Grid count reduction for less obstructed view?

Agreed. Keeping the proportionality is key and I think that's where my struggle is. I think I'll do a simplified layout (CAD) to get a quick visual on those "tweener" sizes to see how they "fit" with the other sizes. That should help steer the decision. Anybody have any pics on: ...

Re: Grid count reduction for less obstructed view?

I stand corrected. I just checked and the existing 32 window is a 6/6 with landscape oriented grid pattern. Looks OK w landscape oriented lites.

Re: Grid count reduction for less obstructed view?

Just when I thought we were ready to finally place the order, we're grappling with grids! Who'da thunk it? I removed the lower grids from our existing Narrowlines to see if that was an option. While it definitely opens up the view looking out, not crazy about the effect from the outside. No grids at...

Okna 500DX and 800DX - same glass, diff ratings?

Curious why the NFRC ratings differ (albeit minimally) between the Okna 500DX and the 800DX when the glass packs are the same? Is that due to the frames? In the end the numbers are very good for either unit.

Grid count reduction for less obstructed view?

Does anyone have any experience with customers, or personal opinions, on reducing the grid count in order to gain a less obstructed view from the inside looking out yet still retain the original architectural intent of the home? Specifically, I have a gang of (approx.) 36W x 37/45/49H windows with 8...

Okna Enviro Star/800 series handle - 1 or 2?

Do the Enviro-Star/800 series Okna windows have only one centrally located handle, or are they available with two positioned approximately arms width apart? The reason I'm asking is I was exploring Okna windows on YouTube and it looked like an 8 lite (4 over 2 grid) sash had two handles. I just assu...

GBG - what's the performance impact?

Just curious - how much impact to performance does GRG (grids between glass) make in a window compared to no grids? I suspect it's negligible but would like to confirm. I'm asking as window ratings are typically based on units without grids as that is the optimal performance setup. But, since my hom...

Okna GBG width?

Can anyone tell me what the width is for Okna Grids Between Glass (GBG), specifically Contour vs Flat, but I suspect they are the same? Replacing Andersen Narrowline series which are 1/2". I'm hoping they are close to that and not as much as 3/4" otherwise I might elect to run grids top on...

Re: Okna 5500DX flange removed = 500DX?

I assume the 5500 is indeed available as a 5500DX? Also, HomeSealed (or anyone else) -care to share the steps of how you added the image to the post? I can't seem to figure that out and am unable to find detailed instruction ( that I can follow) on the forum. I thought I could upload from my pc but ...

Re: Spacer material across Sunrise brands?

For us non-pros, I found this site to help me better understand the relationship between U-Factor and SHGC based on your climate region: https://www.nachi.org/shgc-ratings-windows.htm Living in PA, it is evident that the Okna 500DX insulated frame, dual glazed, low-e & argon outperforms the Vang...

Re: Spacer material across Sunrise brands?

Just saw my Vanguard dealer responded with values as follows for
insulated frame, dual glazed, low-e & argon:

U-factor: 0.29
SHGC - 0.28
VT - O.54
CR - 57
AI - 0.1

Re: Spacer material across Sunrise brands?

Is the negative to the 366 glass for northern customers (I'm in PA so just over the boundary) is that it will yield lower VT but more significantly lower SHGC (which in a northern zone you might want higher to allow the sun's warmth to penetrate the home)? Am I on the right track? Can someone elabor...
