Re: Provia vs Sunrise

I have seen both and i think sunrise make a nicer window. Historically, provia is a door company whereas sunrise was always a window company. Not that this should sway you in one way or another since expanding a door business into windows is not that big of a transition, opposed to a T-shirt company...

Re: Majestic Windows by Ideal Reviews

The majestic window from ideal is a sharp looking window and built well. very good air infiltration rating and has some nice features. The Majestic window is much better than the standard windows by Ideal; its their best window. Your pricing looks in range for that window. i posted a response on the...

Can't go wrong with either of those. While I love the UltraWeld from a performance standpoint, the 800 will run a few laps around it on aesthetic front.
Only a few laps ?

Re: New Cons. Window advice

A lot of guys mention lead to instill fear and raise their prices. There really isn't a lot of dust if we are talking about most insert applications for wood windows. Many guys just assume there is lead in an older home and contain the work area rather than testing and risk getting a false negative....

Re: Installation Cost on New Construction Windows

That cost seems within a normal range. I would strongly suggest staying away from youtube videos. You will get a lot of conflicting info that has more to do with opinion over fact. You used the word “ joists”.. has nothing to do with your window install. You either trust your contractor or you dont,...

Re: Why are Pella and Andersen not liked here?

No one on this board that i know of recommends simonton.. as far as andersen and pella, they are just well known brands with not so good performance ratings. The andersn woodwright 400 is ok in the looks department the whereas the andersen 400 “tilt wash” looks cheap. Again, both dont offer the perf...

Fwiw, the okna is made better. Also, okna is getting a .19 u factor with argon whereas tri state is using krypton. Okna gets a .15 with krypton if im not mistaken..

Re: Need help choosing double hung vinyl replacement windows

They are just not as efficient as a higher end window or properly designed to lower air infiltration in my opinion.
For great lakes, ask to see the “ eco smart”. Thats a decent window. He showed you the economical series which doesnt necessarily translate to value.

Re: Are aluminum reinforced windows necessary?

If you had a choice, either aluminum or steel, you would opt for steel since its less conductive than aluminum. Putting metal inside a vinyl window will negatively affect the Ufactor making it slightly less efficient. Thats why most high end windows use non metal spacer systems. By the way, if you e...

Re: Are aluminum reinforced windows necessary?

Great advice., a composite or fiberglass reinforced window what you would want, certainly not metal. I would never purchase a cheap window such as the one the other poster is describing.
Cheap windows tend to be much more costly than expensive windows.

You sound like the same guy from the other board who said his eyes are popping out with the sizing of his patio doors.

Re: Anyone know exactly which glass is used for Okna windows?

The one thing i may add is that although most companies offer LowE, there are many variations of it. For example, Okna’s climaguard lowE may be different from another company. There are about 10 different versions of climaguard that i know of, some better than others and some that are more beneficia...

Re: What is too dark?

The standard 600 series glass is not dark at all. Sunseal, like other low shgc glass packages will have a darker tint. This package does have a trade off in that regard. One option would be to install sunseal in only the most sun prone part of the home. Another option, use standard climaguard . You ...
