Re: Can I Successfully Glue Wood to Simonton Vinyl?

If you can nail the wood together and to the studs, that is all you need. There is really no reason to need the mouldings to be bonded to the window. Any time caulk is used on an interior, it's only for aesthetics, not strength or sealing.

Re: Looking for Gorell and Sunrise Dealers in Dallas

I believe that both companies have "dealer locators" right on their website. All you have to do is punch in your zip code. There is a regular Pro here from Texas named Randy who is very knowledgable, but I'm not sure if he services the Dallas area.

Re: Can I Successfully Glue Wood to Simonton Vinyl?

I've seen PL(or liquid nail) used with some success in the past, however don't take that as a recommendation... I have to say I'm having a hard time visualizing your situation.. Was it installed with a nailing fin?

Re: Can I Successfully Glue Wood to Simonton Vinyl?

You won't want to glue or nail anything to the window as it can void the warranty. It can be done, but just beware of the possible consequences. You might look into a "snap-in" casing that most manufacturers offer. If you notice the groove/channel around the perimeter of the window, that i...

Re: Simonton 5500 Reflections vs Gorell 5100 Sliders

Personally I like the Gorell as well, but I am more familiar with it. The Simonton is a solid choice also. I would say that they should be comparable in price and quality.

Re: Somewhat lost in window maze

Your prices seem pretty reasonable, and yes, the concerns on the discount firms are very valid. There are several threads with some good info floating around here regarding this subject... The only thing that I would add is that going with a composite like Starmark or a high end vinyl would NOT be a...

Re: Feldco Sophia Windows

FYI, for those who would like to compare, feldco's window is made by Thermal Industries. Not a terrible window, but not great either, IMHO. I don't particularly care for the pocket sill and a few of the other features. It is a pretty old design in general.

Why not just click on Window4U and get a quote. He certainly has a product that will match or exceed the Gilkey product offering.
+1 on all points. :D

Re: Restoration replacement windows

I have a quote for the Restoration triple pane r9 glass foam filled, fiber core reinforced - 10 windows, $7780. Is there any concern with regard to warping of a vinyl window versus composite? Great window, decent price.... There is no validity to any claims made by composite salesguys that vinyl wi...

Re: Owens Corning Solace vs Soft Lite Elements

Thanks for the info; that's really good info to know. I looked at Sunrise/Restoration website, and there is a lot more product info there than on OC-Solace site. I also looked at the local Solace dealer's website and found out they are also the local distributors for Sunrise Restoration. The salesp...

Re: Owens Corning Solace vs Soft Lite Elements

I've done a lot of research. The Owens Corning Solace window is the best on the market for the best price. Particularly their patio door and low-profile fiberglass reinforced frames that look like wood but are maintenance free. OC corporate has done a great deal of research and has concluded that w...

Re: New very large full screen bowing at top -- is this normal?

I would note it to the installer and ask that he fix it... It is likely that they put a screw up through the middle of the head jamb and just pulled it up a little too much, making it look like the screen is off, when in fact its probably the window frame itself. They should be able to just back tha...

+1.... I'd add that nobody who knows anything about windows loves Pella's vinyl.

Re: Patio Door Replacement

I could install a decent standard 6.0 x 6.8 for 1/2 of those prices.....and be happy. But 6.6 is not standard and that would add 50% to cost of the door itself. Not to be argumentative, but at half those prices you are very close to the cost of a high quality door by itself without installation or ...
