You need to look for a window with a low SHGC, no higher than .31 and .29 is better. Simonton, Alside, Certainteed are all available in your area with these ratings. Double glazed windows will serve you well, no need for triple. The price you want to pay is low. This board can be very confusing for ...

You should stay away from the company who awarded you their "grand prize". They are dishonest and extremely high priced. There is nothing wrong with a company charging any price they please for their services and products, as you have the right to say no. But when a company uses deceptive ...

Without knowing more about the installation, the price you paid does sound a little high, particularly since your only getting single hungs. If your home is stucco, and the original frame is to be left intact, your price is high. The Anlin window does seem to have a pretty good reputation among West...

It's difficult to give pricing info without seeing the installation, however you should be looking to pay less than $7500.00 for the whole package, perhaps much less.

Bill gave you good info on the window brands and lines.

Earwax, do your windows come out of the Wyoming plant? I have heard that they do a much better job than our Corsicana location. THe only good things about the Summit line of windows IMP is the desert sand color and the sdl option. However, they tend to get sloppy with the sdl application and the res...

Certainteed offers them from their Dallas affiliate. Jeld-Wen offers them on the Summit vinyl line as well, but the Summit line is poorly constructed.

I would advise a homeowner to avoid companies who operate this way all together. It's just not smart to get into a contractual agreement with anyone who is dishonest. Even if the company is offering a truly awesome price, can you trust them to perform, warranty, service, etc......? You can always fi...

I'm still trying to figure out what the "heat the homeowner produces" is. How did body heat enter the conversation?

GCD52 has me in awe.

The old "advertising house" scam is still alive I see. While there are companies who will discount jobs that are located strategically on busy streets or corner lots on busy intersections, it is very likely that you have run across a scam to get your signature on a contract. If they are ho...

Agree. Cancel and get more quotes. Sears is way overpriced. The Anlin window line is highly regarded out there on the West Coast. Why not contact Anlin and ask for a couple of dealer references.

To be honest, I don't know a thing about the Champion window. They are fairly new to the state of Texas. Windows4U or FenEx might be able to help you out on that, since they regularly come up against Champion in their neck of the woods.

Was Ryan helpful to you?

XSleeper, how do you plug the hole in the sill? I'm not an installer, but I've never let my guys drill holes in the sill of a window for fear of water penetration and the resulting wood rot and mold.

The Sheffield is a better window than the UltraMaxx or the Excalibur, and not much more expensive. If you prefer the narrower frame and more glass look however, the Excalibur double hung will work fine if the installation is well done. If I were you, I would call the Alside branch office there in Ar...

Schuco does not offer a Low-E designed for hot climates. Southern and Southwestern states often have large windows in them that Schuco will not make in a triple glazed unit, only their double glazed. Their double glazed glass has a SHGC that is too high for areas where cooling is the primary concern...
