Re: What's the beter Choice?(Simonton 5500 or 9800)

Hi:
If you do a search on Bill, he has posted some pics of the 5500 vs. 9800 double hung. I looked at both and to me, the applied lift handle vs. the extruded rail along with the interior detailing makes all the difference if aesthetics are important to you.

Re: opinion on Amerimax sliders?

Hi: I looked at the Amerimax several times. It is also marketed in Colorado both under a private label (Conservation Construction). I really liked the frame on the Amerimax - it is quite sleek and elegant. It is also pretty thin, so it does not have the appearance of being a bulky frame. However, af...

Re: Simonton 5500 Reflections vs. other choices

Greetings DTColorado and thanks for your post. I am glad you found my posts helpful. If it had not been for this website, I never would have learned about Simonton (or many of the other quality vinyl windows out there). I know what you mean about being overwhelmed with options and I spent quite a bi...

Re: New Simonton Woodgrains

Thanks Bill: Is the woodgrain laminate real wood?? For the sliders, I really liked the applied lift rail on the 9800 slider. Does the 5500 come with applied lift rail option and integral nail fin flange? You may remember you advised me on the 1" IG option in order to meet SHGC and U value requi...

Re: New Simonton Woodgrains

Thanks for posting these pictures Bill. Is the woodgrain available on the 9800 Impressions sliders too? Is the color "through and through" or just a surface coating? Every woodgrain vinyl window I've looked at always looked like a very cheap imitation of real wood - so much so that I felt ...

I didn't see this in the video or the letters. Did I miss something?

Re: Windowwizards & OKNA foam fill issues

Thanks for bringing this to the attention of the board Bill. I read the pdf letters from WindowWizards and Okna and it appears they are trying to defuse this issue by blaming it on marketing brochures that show every cavity filled with foam when apparently they now claim Okna never did necessarily f...

Re: How to measure when i can see studs

For a drywall return (where there is no interior trim or casing) do you measure the width from drywall face to drywall face, add 1" (for 1/2" drywall), and then subtract 1/2" or 1/4"? For the height where there is drywall return against the header, but a wood sill, do you do the ...

Re: KeepSafe laminated glass - worthwhile upgrade?

Bill ...

"laminated all inside" means the laminated panes are on the side of the window adjacent to the interior of the home and using the 0.060" Saflex (rather than 0.090"), correct?

Re: KeepSafe laminated glass - worthwhile upgrade?

Any guesstimates as to improvement in the STC in going from 1" IGU with SuperSpacer and argon to the same package with laminated glass (0.060" PVB)?

I spotted this release from Simonton:

Does anyone know why it is not apparently offered on the 9800 line?

Re: KeepSafe laminated glass - worthwhile upgrade?

Thanks Windows4U. This is actually reassuring. When I looked at the Simonton 9800 slider glazing strips, it just seemed like they would pop out quite easily (like some Jeld Wen windows I saw at Home Depot). It's good to know that is not the case.

Re: KeepSafe laminated glass - worthwhile upgrade?

Thanks Bill: I was hoping you would spot this post. Do you think there are signficant advantages in terms of burglar resistance? It seems a weak point would still be the external glazing bead strips that could be removed. Regarding the package you mentioned, is the low e coat the Cardinal 270 or 366...

KeepSafe laminated glass - worthwhile upgrade?

Hi all: I'm considering upgrading my Simonton 9800 order to include the KeepSafe laminated glass option. For 16 windows it raises the price from about $5200 to $7800 (does not include installation). In fact, the price differential isn't even that high since two of the windows are by a tub that would...
