I appreciate your situation. Trust me, I do. It is the same type of objections that the good contractors struggle to overcome everyday of our working lives. That being said, you have such a leg up on the competition with the internet and discussion boards such as this one. The information disseminat...

Schuco is effectively out of the window business now. The other brands you listed are all good. The preservation line by Alside is a Sheffield window re-badged under another name. I am not a huge fan of that window. You will be hard pressed to get 10 windows in any of the lines that you mentioned in...

What is the exact configuration of the windows you were quoted.

i.e. Grids, Low-e/argon, etc.

I am always shocked when people say that buying windows is "such a god awfull pain in the arse". Trust me, I would feel your pain if I was subjected to multiple 2 hour presentations. This is not buying a timeshare though, this is your home and you make the rules. It is well within the real...

Re: replace casements with double hung???

I currently have wood casement windows approx 56" wide x 46" long and was wondering if it is possible to replace with double hung? Thanks 56" wide is probably outside the maximum width for many manufacturers. Are you sure that you don't have your measurements switched up? i.e. 46&quo...

The Simonton window is a decent window but can likely be duplicated by a local contractor for a more competitive price.

The AC-12 is a Silverline product that is bottom barrel to say the least.

Good to know. I am sure it is a national policy then.

Thanks.

yes go with the extruded but also remember simonton willreplace the screen for free for life. I may be mistaken, but I am not sure they will warranty the roll formed screens. I would check that out before I opted for the cheaper screen. Don't try to save money on something like that. Extruded scree...

To add to my earlier comments, it may be an issue of improper curing or a mechanical adhesion issue as Window4U stated and that is it. I was commenting primarily on your comments on the gaps being over a 1/4 inch. If the gaps are under that, you have no need to worry about measurements on install. J...

Look for the serial number on the window and call them with that information.

It is not entirely unlikely that they have changed their lock design and it no longer says Accuweld on the top. They may only be able to offer you their current design, however, the difference should not be significant.

Typically the maximum cut back for measurements is 1/8 of an inch max on the sides and the top and bottom. If the gap is wider than that then I would be interested as to why to begin with. i.e....rough opening measurements are 32 wide by 53 tall. The order/make size should be 31 3/4 by 52 3/4 to all...

If you like the Soft-Lite window but do not like the Barrington exterior, go with the Bainbridge. It is basically the Barrington with a reworked exterior profile and balance covers.

Dayton makes a ton of extrusions for window manufacturers around the nation. The DP ratings is kind of low for a top end window and their air infiltration number is moderate to weak on their slider. The Sunrise window is attractive. I am not a big fan or the integral lift rail and glazing bead. They...

The Barrington or the Bainbridge are very nice windows. Both from Soft-Lite.

You may also want to look at the Okna DH300 if you are looking for good performance numbers and a very thin profile.

You will probably get a bunch of different answers depending on who you ask. I think comparing dual pane to dual pane across the board, the Soft-lite Imperial LS has the best performance but is that worth more than the 1500 delta between that window and the prism...? That is for you to decide. I do ...
