Re: Newtown Slocum Harmony Replacement Windows

ok.. looking at the website, it seems the harmony is their budget oriented line whereas the windblocker is their better line. i am guessing the harmony is'nt as solid. the fact that your contractor isnt a window guy but likes this particular window leads me to think he likes the price. the windblock...

Re: Newtown Slocum Harmony Replacement Windows

the excalibur is a lower grade window and is never recommended. newton slocomb is a decent mid grade that is ok... however, when i hear " ridiculously cheap" , a red flag goes up. make sure you are getting what you pay for and make sure the installer is a true window contractor and not som...

Re: Ridge vent, gable vent

the way those soffits are vented is fine. of course there should be openings in the original soffits for the new ones to function properly. your contractor ( like most ) just dont understand the science behind ventilation, hence leaving the gable vents after installing a ridge vent. your contractor ...

Re: 12 year update on the Silverline (Anderson) 8000-8500 series

Silverline are known to be one of the lowest quality windows available..there are plenty of higher end vinyl windows but silverline is not one of them. unfortunately many contractors install the cheapest windows they can find because they know uninformed homeowners only care about price. Anderson ( ...

Re: replacement windows

performance wise, the soft lite is the winner..that being said, the infinity is nice, although expensive and the simonton 5500 is a very solid mid grade product. i am not fond of the others based on what i consider poor designs..by the way, the MI is the 1650, not plygem. i would ask the soft lte de...

Re: Ridge vent, gable vent

Gable vents disrupt the natural convection current caused by the soffits and ridge vent. Leaving gable vents is alot like a hole in a vacuum cleaner hose

Re: Window recommendations for SF Bay Area/California

the one issue that stands out with Anlin is the fact that they are utilizing a Pocket Sill design. a pocket sill is an inferior design. basically lets water drain through the frame opposed to just the sill. the water goes through the frame and then theough weep holes..these weep holes get clogged an...

Re: First time homeowner and window buyer-NEED HELP!!!!!!

that window is certainly not regarded as a higher quality window and lets be honest, how good could a 300 window actually be ! in construction, cheap is a red flag and cheap also means more expensive because invariably you will wind up doing the job twice. most of the time that 349 goes alot higher ...

Re: Viwinco windows

One of my local suppliers were pushing ViWinco but it was cheap looking and felt flimsy ; i saw both the cambridge and edgemont. With so many better quality brands, its just not a window i feel comfortable offering. The Okna, Sunrise, and soft lite are just so much better and nicer.

Re: Ellison Windows

Ellison are made by Atrium and are on the lower end of the quality spectrum. the poster above mentined air leakage. thats a common problem with lower end windows. they are better than silverline or pella vinyl but thats not saying much. i would look at higher end brands such as HiMark, Sunrise, soft...
