Re: Sunrise Windows - Double Strength Glass???

After trying to do more research online, I've found possible answers to my question regarding why Sunrise might use single strength glass. But I'm curious if any of the experts, especially the various Sunrise dealers, agree with this. 1) Flexibility Thinner glass puts less strain on the IGU's seal, ...

Re: Sunrise Windows - Double Strength Glass???

I can't imagine hauling these things up and down stairs all day, let alone ladders, so I get how the SS glass can be a relief to you guys. But what is a normal sized unit? My largest double hungs are 36(w) x 60(h) and I have one 40(w)x54(h). I also am having a double pane a slider installed that's 6...

Re: Sunrise Windows - Double Strength Glass???

Delaware Mike: I doubt my dealer would have worked out any special deal for DS glass. If he did, he would have said something I'm sure. But twice he said he was certain it was DS and brought out a cross section TP sample to show the glass thickness. I was still doubtful. I felt like maybe he never g...

Re: Sunrise Windows - Double Strength Glass???

That's what I thought too regarding the TP. Figured that would be a basic piece of knowledge that would be easy to confirm rather than assume. Would that ever be a negative? Sacrificing double strength glass for TP units? After having TP installed in all of our bedrooms, I wonder if it would have be...

Sunrise Windows - Double Strength Glass???

My dealer says the Sunrise windows use double strength glass in both their double and triple pane windows. But nothing in any Sunrise brochure or website talks about this. So I'm skeptical about what my dealer thinks about this, especially since I've heard that single strength glass is supposed to b...

Looks like they used the method that Anthony described earlier.

Great. It's nice to have some reassurance that the install seems to have been done well. The installer was one of the reasons why we went with the company we did.

Re: Window flashing without disturbing external trim

I've attached pictures of the outside of two of the new windows showing the original trim. The third picture shows one of our original windows we still have in the house which is the same as what the new windows replaced. This is the first time I noticed what looks like white flashing folded over on...

Window flashing without disturbing external trim

We had full replacement Sunrise Restorations windows installed several years ago and we're having the same company back to finish the job downstairs. I'm trying to address any post-install questions that have come to mind before they start on the downstairs windows. Thus, my recent series of questio...

Re: Sash Bowing Question

Thanks, Delaware Mike. I'll be a little nosier this time during the install and ask about the setting of the shims. As i said, the bowing is really not too bad, but perhaps that explains the difference in lock tension? Interestingly, the two retrofit/insert double hungs we had installed don't have t...

Re: Sash Bowing Question

Yes, we're very happy with the windows. Brazilian Pecan woodgrain with matching jamb and case. Will ask the installer about the bowing when he comes back next month to do more windows for us. Not causing any problems as far as I can tell, but I was just wondering if there is an acceptable level of b...

Re: Sash Bowing Question

20130708_191517.jpg 20130629_181624.jpg Here are two pictures of the same window. You can sort of see how the black seal on the upper sash gets thinner or tapers as it gets closer to the sides. It's not an optical illusion: the center of the top side of the lower sash is slightly bowed downward.

Sash Bowing Question

More post-installation Sunrise questions from me. Nothing I'm really worried about, but maybe it will help others searching this board as previous Q&As helped me in my window search. In my Sunrise Restoration double hungs, I've noticed a very slight bowing on the top part of the bottom sash. It ...

Re: Replacement Window Extending Past Outside Window Trim

I have to assume the installation was done correctly. Not sure how much this is worth, but the Restorations warranty warrants that the installation is done to Sunrise's standards, so hopefully I'm correct in assuming that Sunrise has some level of confidence in the company doing the install. Thanks,...

Re: Replacement Window Extending Past Outside Window Trim

Good to hear. Thought it may be more vulnerable to the rain and hail. (Meant to say protrudes about 1/2 inches out)

I don't mind the look either, especially since I also like what I gain from the inside (more glass and nicer trim and jamb).

Thanks.
