Re: Sharing my energy results

The insulation value of the siding install wouldn't be a tremendous factor, however it is likely that a lot of penetrations were sealed in the process therefore making a good contribution.... That is a very nice gain overall. It's always a plus when you are able to see the fruits of your investment....

Re: Okna 800, Softlite Elements, Simonton 9800 - Splitting Hairs

I don't see any reason why firms would be increasing or decreasing prices after the first of the year, although I'd agree that with a good company you'll get a good install whether its now or in 6mos.... WOW, I have to say, I feel the same way, that you are not really responding to my points.... Eit...

Re: Okna 800, Softlite Elements, Simonton 9800 - Splitting Hairs

The $1335 IS dependant on some extreme circumstance, but so are those AI ratings. The gap between .15 and .05 goes down as the windspeed goes down does it not? Regardless, the $1335 is a number arrived at using your own calculator in conjunction with information found in the literature of the window...

Wow, I appreciate your thoughtful and measured response as usual... I realize that electric is the most expensive, however it was quoted first in the discussion by you and Moneyt, so it should be fair game. Further it does not make the point any less valid as your numbers do all seem plausible until...

Re: Okna 800, Softlite Elements, Simonton 9800 - Splitting Hairs

Wow! I've been gone too long. What a thread. I only have a limited amount of time to post now, but I do feel compelled to respond since some here have taken an opportunity to question my motivation for emphasizing air leakage ratings. I am more than happy to have full disclosure of my business. Hop...

Re: Okna 800, Softlite Elements, Simonton 9800 - Splitting Hairs

So if I may, and with all sincerity I'll ask a question directed at anyone, where should a homeowner draw the line when considering AI for windows? Ignoring small differences between .01 AI and .13 AI, I'm having difficulty coming to terms with discounting AI because I could end up with a window wi...

Re: Okna 800, Softlite Elements, Simonton 9800 - Splitting Hairs

Moneyt, those are good questions. Air sealing a home is very important and blower door testing is great to identify problem areas. In regards to replacement windows and the ai ratings, the point is that there is such a tiny difference if any at all, that it will make 0 difference in the performance ...

Re: Okna 800, Softlite Elements, Simonton 9800 - Splitting Hairs

Moneyt, I mean no ill will toward you(or anyone for that matter). You just happened to pop up in the middle of what has been a very heated debate for the last couple weeks , and which has stretched across multiple threads (on the importance and benefit (or lack thereof) of Ultra-low AI ratings). I c...

Re: Okna 800, Softlite Elements, Simonton 9800 - Splitting Hairs

It has been an ongoing debate, and whether intentional or not, you were basically creating a payback schedule..... ........So basically what you are saying is that even in a completely unacheivable labratory setting, with a completely unrealistic windspeed of 25 mph, it would still take 52 years to ...

Re: Okna 800, Softlite Elements, Simonton 9800 - Splitting Hairs

100,000 BTUs per therm, not 1,000. Yup, that's where I went wrong, no wonder it seemed high to me, thanks, WoW. Factoring in 100,000 BTU per therm and boiling it down; I get $.0331 / day; or $2.97 per year and 673 years to burn up $2000 For a window with .13 AI (for example), I get $0.43/day; or $3...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isnt the park ave just a 530 with some bells and whistles and a wildly inflated price? I think its an "okay" product but not for the price that they ask around here.

Revere Berkshire = Alside Excalibur. Not a highly regarded product.
