The best caulking for replacement windows??

#1 Post by adaddo »

Hey there guys...
Looking for a bit of advive...from the "better educated" :-)
Am in the process of replacing several windows ....with some andersen renewal windows...
Is there a specific caulk that is better than others?
Just 100% silicone...?
How about the type that you use on glass block...?
I used that type in making a small window, several years ago,,,,and it seems to be "standing the test of time"....better than many other types I've used in the past....at least for that type of application.
Just wanted to be sure they go in correctly....and I dont have rotting wood in a couple years..
Any feedback from the "more experienced" would be greatly appreciated
Thx again

The Renewal by Anderson dealer I once worked for used only Novaflex.
It's also my favorite for vinyl windows. It adheres to vinyl better than 100% silicone and comes in all the vinyl window colors.

I agree with the Novaflex. We also use OSI's Quad polyurethane for caulk that can be painted.

:?: Where can you buy Novaflex? I couldn't find it at Lowe's or Menards. I found OSI Polyurethene at Ace, but it didn't have Quad on the label. Is this the same?

It's available at many contractor supply houses where roofing, window and siding contractors buy their supplies. Look in the phonebook under siding suppliers and make some calls to see if it is available. Some will sell items such as caulk to homeowners, some will require you to be a contractor.

Caulking

If anyone want to buy some Novaflex Caulking via the mail, I can get it for you for $5.00 per tube or $60 per case of twelve. I have it in seven standard colors.

Thanks!

Polyurethane rated by AAMA will last you 75 years and is paintable. The expense is well worth it.
