Anlin vs. Simonton debate

#1 Post by kaydee »

have read quite a few posts on this forum about these two brands. Some folks swear that Anlin is better and many others feel Simonton is equally good and is a nationally reputed company.

Here are facts I know:

1. Anlin has better SHGC and U rating ((U=0.27, SHGC = .22) with their top of the line galzing system. They use 0.080" thickness vinyl.

2. Simonton 7500 has a bit lower rating (U=0.29, SHGC=0.29). Their narrow frame series (7300) has U=0.29 and SHGC=0.34. Simonton 7300 has a more sleeker frame too. Simonton uses 0.072" thickness vinyl

All the numbers above are with Argon/LowE glass.

Simonton got the JD Power award for the best window company in 2006 based on product, service, customer satisfaction etc. Their warranty is top notch.

Bottom line: Personally, I feel both brands are equally good in terms of the window quality but I might give Simonton an edge due to
- national brand reputation
- long pedigree, much longer in business
- time tested in every climate around the country

I would like to hear opinions from others with respect to these two brands.
